I think they are 390 heads. I don't recall seeing that casting number asociated w/ any 427 heads. Sorry...hope I'm wrong.

They seem to be a mystery BUT.. You are not the first person to suggest that they are 390 heads.. But nobody seems to know why.. hmmm... I have seen 390 GT heads and 427 LR heads side by side and can't tell the difference, Maybe firedog will enlighten us.

Hi Guys,
The groove I'm talking about is difficult to see in the photos but if you look at the last big photo of the LS of the block the area that is usually grooved by the cutter is above the center freeze plug just in front of the lower motor mount hole. I have seen at least 8 of these blocks and all of those had the groove cut. There may be some blocks out there that mercifully had the cutting tool stop short of side oiler distruction but personally I haven't seen one. I think you guys figured out the head situation so no comments are needed The reason guys like Bill and myself have all this information is because we are certifiably nutso and have been doing this type of insanity for many years. Besides, Bill and I are the Tunnel-port brothers:D Hey Bill, you should have seen me last night. I took a saws-all to a single plane 8-V Tunnel-port manifold to make my EFI manifold! Not a sight for the squeamish!%/ Hell, I was even sweating. Cheers, Mike |
Shhhhh.. Turk will want one like that if you don't keep it quiet..
Thanks again.. |
Michael:
Two good book that help are "How to Rebuild Big-Block Ford Engines" by Steve Christ and "Ford Performance" by Pat Ganahl. Mike: You animal--you must have nerves of steel. A saws-all? Must have been happy when it came out OK. Got to go for a ride. Later TP-Bro. |
