Yup. What Turk said.

You now have the luxury of being able to run on the street while this is being built up the right way.

Brent,

It sounds like quite a combination of parts. The '68 HYD engine had forged crank and LeMans rods as well as forged pistons. What made it different was the heads, (428CJ variety) and the juice cam. Well, the intake was CJ variety too, come to think of it.

Others are right. If the block is not damaged, it alone is worth the price.

If you find cast crank, cast pistons and regular "nut and bolt" type rods, someone has changed them. Not really a big thing unless you REALLY want to run the 24 hrs of LeMans.

On the OEM oddities like the intake and exhaust manifolds, GET THEM! The cast iron headers alone are as scarce as hen's teeth and they ARE sought after by restorers.

Now, back to Ted King. If you buy the piece, or even before you do, have Ted look it over. Might cost a couple three hundred bucks to have him take it apart and reassemble, but it would let you rest easy.....and you'd be driving that Cobra real quick.

Heck, I'd leave the carbs and manifold on it. Chances are the guy had enough cam and compression in it to make them work pretty effectively.

Play your cards right on this, and you can wind up with two 427 S/O engines with little cost in the second one.

Next, you'll have a running 427 to sell this winter AND the price you'll get, will pay for the work and the parts on the first engine.

Just my four-bits worth.

Al
