Rem, I again need to apologise on behalf of the majority here for the rude behavior of a certain few. If a big block fits, then go ahead. More and more FFRs have been running them. You may want to post a question on www.ffrcobra.com for 1st hand feedback from those running BigBlocks.
Bill S. may I suggest some end of summer reading for you. I know you have extra time on your hands. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...71723650&itm=1 |
TC,
   call it my lack of political ambition.......I hate posturing, then again, I hate not answering when provoked. Guess they are all one and the same when you get down to it...... Bill S. |

The type of cobra IS relevant to engine selection...
In terms of horsepower and torque. For instance I am VERY glad that I blew off the many "That's too much HP" suggestions. The 514 (600+HP and torque) motor is barely powerful enough for my heavier-than-average West Coast replica. It's enough to bring the grin factor. In a lighter replica, 400 to 450 horses might be just fine.

Bill,
It is funnier when others start laughing at you. TURK |
You would know Turk, you would know.................So, did you get your new buddy "Jay" to make a commitment for the DVSF IV...........I've got a similar picture of him in my 68 GT350 convertible from a few years back...........Will post it if I can find it...............

Just a question on why big blocks wont fit in some cobras, is it coz the chassis is too narrow or coz of fibreglass restrictions, eg width of footboxes. I just cant understand why you cant "make" it fit into anything. Please dont take the piss out of me for this, it is a serious question. I was told by many people that "you will never get a big block in there", well we did and it looks awesome.
Andy. |
Andy,
Back to the original subject, ok, if the car was engineered for the Big Block, then there is no reason why it would not fit. The original 427 frame configuration allows for this, as does the original small block (if you redo the engine mounts on the frame rails). No reason for them not to fit........However, due to some of the footbox configurations, a big block can be a tight fit at times...Doable, but tight........... Bill S. |
Bill,
I am not sure that there will be a DVSF IV. DV hasn't said anything about it so far. However Jay is locked and committed for the First Annual Gashole Symposium. We have not set the location yet. Aruba and Azores are the two locations being considered. Having a great deal of problem with shipping companies. None will commit to guaranteed delivery of the cars. We will make the announcement as soon as the dates and the place is set. Will you be there? TURK |
Turk,
HHHHHHHHmmmmmmmmm, a trip to Aruba, in the Cobra no less.......Depending on how the new business takes off (more on this at a later date), I just might take you up on your invite................. Bill S. |
Rem,
Venom S just stuffed a 503 cu (460 bored & stoked) into his ffr. Tight, but fits (just like it should!). http://www.cobragarage.com/Images/Bi...a/Engine01.jpg http://www.cobragarage.com/Images/Bi...Assembly02.jpg She does sound sweet! 6T5 you can see more of his pics here |
Nice motor...
What is the make of the purple electric water pump? Looks like exactly what I have been seeking...
|
REM, check out www.southernautomotive.com they have 427 s/o advertised for around what your looking to spend. Complete, run in and ready to drop in. Last time I was at their website price was around 12k. Not bad for a complete sideoiler. G.

The best motor you can get for $15,000. Easy. But it isn't a Ford. It is however vintage, sort of... Chevy has re released a limited quantity of it's all aluminum 427 "mystery motor" from 1968 (69 model year) The RPO ZL1.
The latest version is punched out to 454 ci via a 4.300 bore. Dyno numbers are a little scetchy but the 10.2:1 mill should produce 550 plus hp and easily run on regular pump gas. |
the cheby sounds cool, but a cobra should have a ford in it i feel...as far as southern automotive, the link up above doesnt work.....and to be honest, all the crap on this post is a bit confusing........and sad........%/

hey rem...just focus a bit... it's not hard, really.
just read the relevant posts. |
Rem,,,,
I agree the Cobra should have a Ford motor in it! Good call. In some countries, England for instance, it is much more difficult for the "average" guy to get "period correct" pieces. I cut them more slack as to their various choices. Now those boys "down under" are the mavericks of the bunch! I see them as the Cobra Research and Development Center, 'cause some of the off the wall stuff they come up, while pretty interesting, is far from "period correct". They seem to celebrate their "independance" with gusto, LOL. As to the disagreements, the "Club" has been working on that little problem more aggressively than in the past. Like a family some of us don't always agree with the other member. HOW to state your case without personally bashing someone is the key. Ernie |
i can skip the crap, just trying to figure out why its here....thanks for the insight Ernie....
