I don't want to hijack this thread. Just answering Sal's question.

Your car (kit, roller, etc) will be titled as the year the kit is completed. NJ will classify the car as "reconstructed". In order to title the car, you will have to submit the car for an engineering inspection. One part of the inspection is locating the pollution control equipment required for the year of the block. So.....if you have a newer block, you will need to show the engineering inspector your cats, sensors, etc. If you have an older block (and can prove it), then the pollution equipment requirements are minimal or nonexistent. Once you pass this inspection, you will be issued a title. Once titled, if you register as a normal vehicle, you will have a pollution excemption for the year of the motor. Or you can register as Collector Car (not historic) and not go through inspection but have a mileage limitation of 3,000 per year.

My SPF titling has been delayed extensively because I did not understand the NJ rules. I am now back on track with a '63 427 FE block. My paperwork has been submitted and I am waiting for the state to schedule the engineering inspection.

The difference is if Sal has a csx4000 then the MSO says 1965 Cobra and will be titled as such.

Thanks for the information. I will need to check into the MSO thing to see how the state handles that. I was under the impression, like Rob , that the block was the key in what year the car is titled. Thanks ,Sal.

In NJ, the year the kit is completed is the year of the title, no matter what the MSO says. It is the way NJ handles kit cars. NJ does not make any distinction between a roller and a kit. With the roller, NJ is happy that the body and frame are from the same place.

In NJ, the year of the motor (in the kit car) dictates what pollution controls must be on the vehicle during the titling engineering inspection. That engine block year will also be the year used when determining sniffer levels at a typical bi-annual inspection.

Without a doubt, NJ just makes things plain difficult.

What about replacemant parts?

If 427 SO blocks haven't been made since whatever year, aren't the Shelby or Genesis blocks considered replacement parts for '63 through '67? For example if you have a 1963 427 and you break it you will need a new block. This new block that replaces an obsolete ( no longer manufactored) part so it just has to meet the same rules/restrictions as the real thing.:confused:

This is a very Gray area in most states. I konw that sometimes the DMV will register your car based on what your insurance papers state the car as. Sometimes the orgi.MSO works , like from SPF. Try what ever it takes.
