What color is your block

I 'm considering changing the color of my Ford Blue engine block to Black. Can I just paint over the original color?

Jamo 09-06-2003 05:27 PM

My Bare Naked Lady is bare everywhere.:3DSMILE:

I have painted blocks in the past...a good solvent and a steel brush should take off whatever's gonna come off. Cleanliness is the most important thing.

Ditto..

I have heard that Cobra blocks were painted black vs. the standard Ford blue, but I am sure that Computerworks or some other Cobra historian type can give a definitive answer.

Black.

Ford used black for the engine block up to and including 1965 model years...
...in 1966, they switched to the bright Ford blue.

computerworks 09-08-2003 10:59 AM

428s in the Cobra were Blue

PatBuckley 09-08-2003 12:03 PM

To answer the question, yes you can - but don't put lacquer on top of enamel....it will craze.

Just clean it really well and spray away!!

I love being different.

Mines Yellow.

I love the old ford DARK blue,it is hard to find now,,that light funky stuff is everywhere,I think black is the correct 427 color though, lots of them werent painted at all in cars other than cobra,to lessen heat they say.
Joea, get some liquid "Deglosser" at a paint store,or wal mart,it softens and takes away the shine,,also called "liqud sandpaper" it works great with no sanding.enables you to succesfully paint over the old paint. Tks

Rick Bagley 09-16-2003 02:33 PM

427 S.O., Black

Jamo 09-16-2003 08:01 PM

Yup, black was the correct color for the 427 block--just not for the body.

hehehehe..........

luke-44 09-16-2003 08:12 PM

So, just to confirm, black would be the correct color for the 289FIA block?

joea 09-16-2003 09:21 PM

Didn't hear any mention of the 289...so far I heard
427 - Black
428 - Ford Blue

jordanatkins305 09-17-2003 11:32 AM

my 390 is dark ford blue with aluminum color water pump, distributor, intake and valve covers.

Mark Atkins 09-18-2003 10:50 PM
