Edelbrock or Shelby Heads for a FE?
I am trying to chose between Edelbrock or Shelby Heads. The Edelbrock are less expensive. The Shelbys have bigger valves. They are going on a Shelby alum. block with Hyd roller cam.
Mainly for the street with some track events. Is the their any dyno tests or data to support either heads? Greg |
Just my opinion but if I spent the $$$ on the Shelby Aluminum block I would go all they way and get the heads as well....
.... Tell the wife I vote for the Shelby heads!!! |
Which Head??
Joea Hi Joe I have the shelby motor and went with the Shelby heads too. His heads where out before the Eledbrocks where out on the market. From the "PRO" engine builders I talked to the Edelbrock will put up the same flow numbers as the Shelbys with some port work and 2.19 valves. You will still need to have the Shelbys to get ported or CNC anyway. I payed 2,500 $ for the heads and 350.00$ to have them CNC. A nice job was done but still had to port match them to the intake. With either head you cann't go wrong but, you will save about 1,000$ with the edelbrock heads over Shel's. I think the new heads are better on the exhaust side and closer to a 75% of the intake flow. I have seen a couple of the Shelby heads have the exhaust ports cut off and a larger port plate installed. How crazy do you want to GO?? Same motor with both heads stock out of the box maybe a 10 hp differents at 5500 rpm. Porting, matching, blending and the right intake, cam and headers make the WHOLE thing work together. Rick Lake

If your not in a big hurry there will be some new heads hit the market next year. Very Very promising.

Greg; I installed Shelby's myself on my SO iron block. I bought Stage IIcnc heads and they were everything M. Lefevers said they'd be. I checked piston-to-valve, valve-to-wall and cc'd each chamber. All chambers were within 1.5 cc's of each other and absolutly no clearance probs. on any specs., and my cam is a 613"-633". My Harland Sharp rockers, B&B pushrods, FPP shafts and stands all work perfectly. Took 44 lbs. out of my ERA over my old iron med. risers. Very noticible perfomance gain. I'm very pleased with their product.
