Can You ID this Block?

I took the attached photo of my block this weekend. I took another shot at the drivers side front of the block and it is "352" without question. I can't make sense out of the "Side", taken above the oil filter on hte drivers side, It looks like "?F27" which doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone out there tell me what this casting means? Is there any better place to look with the engine installed in the car?

That's just the cast date of the block. You'll have to give more details....The casting number...i.e. C7ME-A....the bore size...any markings (looks like weld bead) on the bellhousing face of the block...etc.

You will need to look on the #1 cylinder (front, passenger side)just below the head for the relevent casting #, It will start with C, ,4,5,6 etc , then a couple more letters..

Its not hard to find , grab your flashlight..

What cast date does this tell me? Supposedly, it is a 427 SO. I could use some more direction as to "bellhousing face of the block." Keep in mind that the engine is in the car. It is presently up high enough for me to easily get under it.

If you are not sure if it is a side oiler, first check for "crossbolts...each side just above pan in the skirt of the block...if it is a side oiler you will see small hex plugs a couple inches above the crossbolts on the drivers side.....also look for hex head freeze plugs in the water jacket ....you can see all of these things with the engine in the car...

On the date code the first digit is the year. Second digit the month. The last two are the day of the month block was cast in. O F 27. Might be June 27th 1970? G. As KK advised look for the casting numbers above the date code. Also for the crossbolts and sideoiler galley with hex screws above the crossbolts on the left (driver) side.

Jack up the car, and take pictures of both sides of the block down to where it meets the oil pan. Post them here. This will help us a lot.

cast. The typical casting date looks like "6M08".
Breaking down a casting date:
6 = The year of the decade. "6" for 1976.
M = The letter of the month. (December)

Most casting numbers are stamped into the part itself, other have the number
molded on the part. Some casting numbers can be ink stamped while others are
printed on paper, which is then wraped around the part.
