Genesis Update

I have had my 427 Genesis running in my car for several weeks now. I have been getting a lot of questions so I thought I would post an update for those interested. I'm pretty sure I am the first to drop a Genesis into a Cobra (got mine in Dec 03) was there anyone before me?

Visually there is nothing that looks different except the cross bolts are visibly bigger. Two things I noticed when installing the new motor was that on the side with the oil galley I had to drill out the motor mount to move the lower hole up slightly as it appears it may have been offset due to the larger oil galley. Once the motor was installed I had to trim the side pipe openings by about 1/4 inch for clearance. Other than that everything else fit perfectly.

On the first start the car seemed to run alittle hot and so I shut it down and let it cool off. Next I took it for an 45 minute highway drive and it ran perfectly but as I was putting it away it started to get alittle hot again so I shut it down and let it cool. Next drive was again a 1 hour highway drive with no problems. The next day I went for another drive 1.5 hours in stop and go traffic, no heating issues at all.

Last weekend I took the car down to austin and participated in the 110 mile hill country cruise and everything ran perfect. Never even ran hot during an extended idling in the parking log when everyone was inspecting it.

I took several people for a "spirited ride" and wow has it got power, but I wont go there because I am biased maybe one of them will post something. I will say it has all the power I could need and yet the car is very easy to control in traffic.

So far I have been inpressed with this motor and then some. I have made it to my first oil change with no issues and a lot of smiles. Just the way it should be. At this time I have to give Genesis and Keith Craft and A+.

Next planned upgrade
Bigger tires, I need more traction.
Bigger brakes
tremec tko II - any one interested in a 3550 this summer.

John Ross,

You win. That motor was the loudest most over-the-top engine I saw in Austin. The thing looked like it wanted to jump right out of the car.

Well done. :3DSMILE:

OK, I'll make a comment............

Wow!!!!! I was one of those that went for a spirited ride and that engine is everything as advertised plus some. An awesome experience.

John...congrats on the motor.....and thanks for posting on CC how the experience is so far. My hat goes off to Keith for making the Genesis project come true. Having him support the completion of the machined cast blocks is why it's on track after such a long period of unknowns. I know his company has worked very hard to make that block available and the entire Cobra and FE community appreciates the efforts. It's just fine to tell CC the car is awesome and the power is fantastic......Congrats!

I would like to have some information on the Genesis block.
If any one could give me a contact number or name that would be great!

thanks
Scott

Hey George,

Thanks for the note. I have been following Genesis for about 2 years and I also am very glad this block came to be.

Hey Scott,

If your looking for technical info or specifics give Keith Craft Motorsports a call at 972-578-3550 im sure they can answer your questions. I think they currently have a couple of blocks in stock.

If there is anything I can answer for you just drop me an email or post it here.

So far I have seen 4 Genesis Blocks come thru the Plano shop (and I'm sure theres more). Mine, one currently running in a fairlane, and 2 that are awaiting installs in new cobras. So they are starting to get out there. I was able to inspect the one that went into the fairlane before I ordered mine. After looking at that motor I placed my order immediatly.

John

Thanks John

I'll try Keith and get some info.,,

I was just wondering if Tim was still with the company or what, I met Tim a few years back when I was production mgr., for Gentry Motorworks in IN., and have not had any luck with his number.

But thanks again, I'll try Keith and see about some info.

Be safe and safe at IT!!

Keep us up to date after every couple of thousand miles.
Or just drive day and night so we don't have such a long wait.

Big Block Oil Leaks

Hello John,

I am considering going with a genesis block. What was the final stroked displacement of your engine? How many horsepower did it make?

I understand that all big block engines seem to develop oil leaks. Have you noticed any oil leaks at all with the genesis block?

Thanks
Dave

RE: Leak

Dave,
Just curious, why would big blocks leak more than small blocks?

Bluedog

JRoss 03-04-2004 10:06 AM

Hey Dave,

Here you go
std bore - 4.250 scat crank - 482 cid.
hydrolic roller cam 622, 252-262
keith craft stage II edelbrock heads w/big valves
10.7:1 - pump gas 93 octaine
649 hp @ 6200 rpm
621 tq @ 5000 rpm

The best part about this motor is the sound. This is one you have got to hear in person.

As for oil leaks so far only 1 and that is my fault. I have a locar dipstick and it is leaking slightly where it goes into the block. This weekend I will pull it and reseal it.

John,

Congrats on your car and engine. I was in Austin and cannot believe I missed the chance to check out the "genesis" of your hard work.:D

Sounds like a spectacular powerplant. I'll have to keep an eye (and ear) out for it at the next TCC gathering--

Austin Joy Ride

A couple of weeks ago, John stopped by my place during his first test ride. So I guess, I had the pleasure to be the first one riding shotgun with his monster. We were cruising around the neighborhood at appr. 50 mph in 4th gear and the slightest tip with the right foot laid quite some rubber on the road. At this time, John still had the Hoosier slicks on. This engine is awesome!!
Last weekend once again I had the pleasure to ride with John through the Texas Hill Country. These are the perfect roads to enjoy such a beast.
I have to confess that from all the various different Cobras I was riding with so far, this Genesis block/Keith Craft build really is the best I experienced so far.
John, congrats to this dream machine.

Best regards
Thomas

Bluedog,

Problem with the rear main seal on the traditional ford big blocks. That is what I'v been told by Dean Rosen of Dynamic Motorsports. He should know.

Genesis Block

Does anyone know what a Genensis Block sells for fully machined and ready to build?

Dan

Cracker 03-04-2004 03:53 PM

We (ATL Group) have a local member who has one and had he choosen to go that route he would of srewed up a head and rocker system. Make sure you check ALL the oil galley's before assembly. In his case a galley wasn't machined through. Fortunately his builder caught it yet Genisis said it was impossible for that to happen - IT did! Be careful!
