Starters for Shelby FE alum block

I need to replace my starter. Any recommendations that will work for an aluminum Shelby block? Will a Powermaster, Tilton and Prostart'r all fit the aluminum block? I know there are some clearance issues with the boss for the screw-in core plugs.
If there was a thread that addressed this already, can you give me the link?
Thanks

Unfortunately, the only one I know fits without issues is the Tilton, which is what Shelby sells. I just spoke to a Gentleman who said he used a Powermaster on his Shelby block, but it required modification.

I don't know about the others.

Thanks for the info. I just installed a CVR Protorque. Model 5049M. It installs with no modifications, and has 18 positions for clearing the block, headers or oil pan.

Great Question. Scott, Where did you purchase the starter? How do you like it so far? I will be needing one for the 63 center oiler I just built if my CSX Cobra ever gets here!

I got a CVR Protorque No. 5049m from George Anderson at Guessford Machine.http://www.gessford.com/cobraparts/fmisc.htm

I had an incorrect starter for 5 years and kept replacing pinion gears. After speaking with George for 10 minutes, he fixed me up with just what I needed and overnighted it to me. He was professional, personable, and terrific to work with! I had previously called every local & national speed shop for an FE mini-starter, but no one had one in stock or could get it in less than 2 weeks. The starter nose plate required no modifications, fits the alum. block with the raised block & drain plug bosses, aviad oil pan and headers.

This starter is available in two versions, the 5049M is rated at 3 hp, the 5049 at 1.9 hp. About $50 difference in price. Someone said Jegs carries the 5049.

The 5049M is much better than the cheaper 5049...don't get the 5049 for long life!
