Default 427 question....Help!!

I am possibly buying what is supposed to be a 427. The guy said the # on the head was C8AE-H.....supposed to be a low riser with an aluminum intake(has 427 stamped on the intake in small numbers)...he said it has 2 cross bolts (I thought there was supposed to be 3??)..maybe he just miscounted or did they make some with 2 cross bolts? It might be a few days until I can see the engine and get any more #'s. He's asking $1,000 for all because he's going through a divorce. What do you guys think??

C8AE - N was a low rise head for the 66-68 Fairlane and Montego. I don't see anything with an "H". If you go to Gessfords site (linked on this page) he has a listing of head and block part numbers.

C8AE-H was on some mild 428 and almost every 70's 390 . Never on a 427

Ditto. 3 cross bolts at the mains. My C8AE-H was a 428. It should be marked 66-427 in the back and have screw in freeze plugs, side oiler hump too.

Ok guys, the guy wasn't there but I went and looked at the engine today. He claimed it was a 67 model 427. Still the same # on the heads C8AE-H. I couldn't find any readable numbers on the block itself beside the usual 352. The intake he has for it is aluminum and has 427 stamped on it, but who knows. The block does not have hex head freeze plugs and it only has two cross bolts on the 2nd and 4th main of the left side....nothing on #3 and none on the right side at all. It also looks as if the two it does have have been welded up on the inside. What do you guys think?..Stay away from this guy and his phoney engines??

Walk away it's not a 427. Those two bolts you see are where the blocks were mounted at the factory for the machine work to be done. Sounds like he stuck a couple of bolts in there to simulate crossbolts. You would see three on each side as stated above. There will be another hang in there. It might be a 428 or 390 or who knows but not a 427 thats for sure with what you observed. G.

Thanks for the help FFR....after looking at it today i'm pretty sure it's a 390. He 'supposedly' has a 428 also, but I don't think i'm going to even waste my time dealing with this guy. Thanks again guys
