Default Give me your opinion on this windowed block...

There is a guy local that has this 390 truck block. It's a standard bore D3TE. I could probably get it next to nothing. He's done the drill bit test...and at first guess, I would say it would go .080". However, it's been windowed and repaired. No damage to the cylinder skirts or any evidence that a rod has been tumbling around inside...It's been repaired....but really doesn't look good to me at first glance. I'll show a pic.....Let me know if you guys think this is even worth considering. Would a mag-flux show any cracks on the repair? The repair looks to be between cylinders 3-4.

Brent Is the window in the bottom of the block below the water jacket line? If you can get the block, Call George at Gussford and see if they can fix it. I wouldn't try to get 500HP from if it can be fixed. You may want to save your money and find another block. Try E-Bay, junk yards, look for old U-Haul trucks, medium duty alot came with the 391 motor. Try boat yards, Check the FE forum for sales. You could save your money and buy a Genesis or Robert Ponds motor? A repaired window block is a 50/50 at best. Is there alot of rust inside the waterjackets? This motor might make a good coffee table Rick Lake

Being it's a 390 block I'd keep looking. D3TE truck blocks are very common. Even though it's close to free you need to lug it to the machine shop to be magged etc....plus the expence of it all. JMO, G.
