1964 Thunderbolt
Hello. I was wondering what sould be needed to build a 1964 Thunderbolt clone. What tranny, rearend, interior (or lack of), what deletes, and where I could get decals, van seats, and other underhood accessories to build my "clone". Please respond.

I hope you get some responses on this one. Ive been wondering about those questions too. I bought an old magazine article about the Tbolt, I should be getting it soon. I'll let you know what I find out. I did a google search on Thunderbolt and got some aticles about clones etc but nothing definitive.

My friend has a calendar with a picture of a 1967 "Light Weight" Fairlane 500 running a side oiler. Picture states 10 second 1/4 mile, one of 10 cars made that year.
I thought Ford ended the T-Bolt cars in '64? Perhaps they continued but just didn't call them "Thunderbolts" after 1964?

Try the guys at www.fordfe.com quite a few clones and a few real t-bolt owners there. You will be spending quite a few $$$$ with Crites as mentioned. G. |

I have lots of old mag articles concerning the thunderbolt if I can answer particular questions. I can tell you this,High Rise center Oil,2x4's with the air induction set up like 63 light weight galaxies.
Extensive rear end fabbed traction bars and frame ties with 9 inch read,4.10 gears.Plexiglass side glass ,rubber mat with no sound insulation.Glass hoods and fenders,the early cars had glass front bumper but later was aluminum I think,something about rules dictated metal bumpers.{ I havent confirmed this}
They were two colors only initially,wimbleton white and a maroon with gold interiors.Pretty sure the seats are the same as early falcons,mustangs,econolines and broncos.Close to half were autos which were faster.They had FMX lincoln trannys,toploaders for the rest.No heater or radio of course.
All cars were 500 sedans with chrome trim containing a black stripe.Factory with 9 inch slicks on kelsey hayes wheels.Battery in the right hand trunk,I belive 3 spring leaves on the right rear and 4 on the left ,the cars set slightly unlevel when parked.
