FE Plug Wires?

Has anyone used the MSD plug wire kits that you finish off the distributor ends youself, and did you find that all the wires were long enough to rout correctly?

snakebit31 02-20-2006 08:52 AM

I posted a reply last night, however it did not appear today. As I had indicated, if you have not purchased the Universal wire kit, MSD has a kit for FE's. I bought mine from PAW, part number MSD-3138. They list it for a 390, and it was an 8mm wire.

I noticed you are in Grand Rapids. In the 70's while attending WMU, I was in the ski patrol at Cannonsburg.

Ah-ha,.. I did not know that, thanks! Did they rout correctly over the valve covers and clean to the distributor?

The ski hills have been hurting this winter. It is finally cold enough to make, and keep, snow, just in time for March to arrive.

One more thing,... what color are those?

Thanks!

Here's a shot of mine, before cleaning up the engine bay.

Burgs, I purchased the MSD kit, it's easy and clean looking, I don't care for the universal kits, they look universal.......

Burgs 02-26-2006 08:09 PM

Hey Perry, were they plenty long enough to rout them correctly?

427 S/O 02-27-2006 03:44 PM

Oh yeah, just measure carefully, they include everything you need.

Burgs 02-27-2006 06:45 PM

Thanks for the help!

I got the ready made wires from MSD. I have never had much luck making up universal sets, and the pre-made sets have the ends sealed on.

The plug ends are sealed from the factory, you only work the distributor ends.

Wire Sets

:) BURGS-We will have a wire set available 4/15(approx) that is pre cut, boots on the dist. end and a HD boot on the spark plug end. Each wire is numbered for the cylinder
it goes on and all wires go over the valve covers. They fit all
FE engines from 332 to 428 CID. These will be std. equipment on all of our engines. Wires are 8MM and provide static free sound quality for your audio systems.
The wires feature our C/S Logo and Carroll's signature and best of all, they're MADE IN THE USA The wire sets will be marketed as Carroll Shelby Signature Series. More later.

Specialk 03-08-2006 01:27 PM

Don, any idea how much they'll be? Do you work for Shelby?

Don McCain: Can you provide more information on the above C/S ignition wire sets? How about a part number, etc?

Thank you, Bob

Back on topic....yes Burgs, I did use that setup in my engine build because I wanted to detail the way the "loom" laid out. It is a fairly straight forward job with minimal hassles.

FUNFER2 07-21-2006 07:51 PM

The universal kit is really easy to do, just takes time. I like the clean look.
Here's a photo of mine.

Just as a follow up, they worked out great! The stock looms that clip onto the valve covers need to be opened up a bit, but worked out fine.

Thanks for the help,
Brad

I like your hood prop, can also be used as a hockey stick huh? Or did you just "borrow" it from one of your kids.

clayfoushee 07-25-2006 10:32 AM

I used 9.5MM from Ford Racing and custom cut each length for proper routing. There was plenty of extra even on the longest run. Yes, it was a little anal, but it worked out nicely.
