Default Observation and question...

Finally, the light at the end of the tunnel. Nearing completion of a very
draw out engine+misc rebuild.

So..., Look at that 3310-4 sitting over there..., the one I took off the car
around 2.5 years ago..., and had kitted, oh, say around 5 years ago.

(OK..., it's not the bee's knees..., but twill do for the initial run-in).

I think I oughta kit it again, I says to myself.

Holy C--p! Nearly every single screw or screw like device in the carb is
loose. Really loose. Like..., secondary metering plate rattling around
kinda loose. Bowl bolts..., loose. PV..., not even a little tight. Primary jets, ditto.

I remember when I last did it..., it was a quickie..., but sheesh..., I don't
remember it being THAT quick. None of the gaskets looked dried out...

Now it sits, reassembled, atop a shiny "new" engine..., and my final
problem faces me: What to do about the air cleaner?

The engine is mounted considerably rearward of any other installation
I've seen. When the car was originally assembled (never finished),
the air cleaner problem was never really solved. I temporarily
solved it with the smallest air cleaner I could find..., the only thing that
would fit. With the new intake, even that is not an option.

So..., time to rework the hood/scoop. Maybe I'll reposition the hole
and go with another scoop. Maybe I'll glass over the existing hole and
make a bump to accomodate a plenum fed by a remote K&N.

In either case..., I only want to do this once.

Now..., remember that nasty old 3310-4? The one that's good enough
for now....

Does anybody know if the Demon 750 has comparable dimensions?

The Barry Grant web site gives dimensions..., I'm working remotely
this week..., so don't have the Holley in front of me.

If I solve my clearance problems with the Holley..., will it all be for naught
when installing the Demon?

If I go the new scoop route, I have a little more flexibility I suppose...,
assuming I can find a kidney style air cleaner with an offset (not
centered) carb hole (but not the full-size "cobra" style cleaner).

If I go the bump w/ plenum route..., then I really want to get that right
the first time.

Thoughts?

The Demon has almost exactly the same deminsions as the Holley. You can interchange then buy you a "Drop Base 3" X 13" Air Cleaner" and you're ready to go.

I tried to change the old drop base that was on my car when I bought it -- no luck -- I think it is an old vette base -- 1 7/8" drop - and 14" diameter. Ended up putting K & N filter that breathes through the top on. Edelbrock carbs have a slightly lower profile if the appearance (traditional) look or adjustment issues don't bother you. I got tired of waiting on a carb rebuild on a Holley - bought Edelbrock- bolted on - and go.
