All.
I spoke (briefly) with Keith today as I am in the process of finalizing my engine. We discussed both the Pond and Shelby block. He likes both, though the the Pond is a bit more authentic (side-oiler type)....though he rightfully pointed out you have to stick your head in and under the car to notice. The Shelby set up is about $1200 more than the Pond. Both can use Hydraulics lifters, etc. Hope this helps. Any final suggestions before I finalize my order?? Thanks! al |
Al, please let me/us know what the final decision is on your engine. I'm still attempting to figure out what I'm doing, so maybe I can glean some info from your build at KC. Are you contemplating any engine upgrades?
Also, there's much discussion on previous threads about the relative merits of the Pond, Genesis and Shelby blocks. The general claim is that the Shelby block is heavier and stronger and requires their own head studs which cost another $500 +/-. Each had their own teething probmes in their early production stages. |
Which ever way you go make sure you top your new shortblock off with a new set of Keith's stage II CNC'd heads, the best way to get the HP from big cubes!:D

Rod,
Will do. As mentioned, I am looking for a pretty drivable (Urban NorCal/Traffic, etc) car. Keith is talking a 500-550 hp Pond Aluminum, mild cam, etc. I will keep you posted on details... Thanks! al |
Al, so what did you finally opt to get? Heads, cam, intake, oil pan, rockers, crank, rods, etc.?
