Well, at long last here it is.
My wife is not happy I bought a $5000 engine.

BossCER 03-26-2008 12:00 PM

Seems like a pretty fair price for your engine block to me ;)

blykins 03-26-2008 12:01 PM

Did you tell her about the rest of the price? :D

hi-tech cobra 03-26-2008 12:06 PM

I had those parts long before we were married.

RodKnock 03-26-2008 12:08 PM

My wife and family are still laughing while in total disbelief, at hearing what I paid for my Kirkham. "A new car that's delivered without an engine and transmission and you paid how much?"

RICK LAKE 03-26-2008 06:08 PM

I will take 5 motors at that price

Hi-tech cobra If that motor is 5 grand, I will take 5.:eek:What did you do knock KCR out??:confused:Go luck squeezing that thing into the car.:) If it fits too tight , just add it to the other 5, I will come and get them on FRIDAY;):LOL::LOL::D:D Rick L.

hi-tech cobra 03-26-2008 08:39 PM

5 grand. It was tough getting that approved through accounting, but in the end she allowed me to splurge. :p

New pics in my gallery. :)

Burgs 03-26-2008 09:03 PM

Send it back, the valve covers are on backwards!

hi-tech cobra 03-27-2008 06:17 AM

I figured that out trying to get them to fit (which they don't). They are Blue Thunder pent roof style valve covers from DCS.

They are nice pieces but they just don't fit. If I start grinding on them, Dennis will say 'no return'. So what's a guy to do, grind away or return them for some stamped steel pent roofs?

blykins 03-27-2008 06:21 AM

If you really like them, I say start grinding.

Thanks for including the dyno sheets in your gallery. I've been very interested to see what kind of numbers a 482 FE might be capable of.

Is it safe to assume that KiethCraft FE-482 hp/torque numbers are representative of those that other manufacturers may produce?

What heads and cam do you have in the KCR 482"?

hi-tech cobra 03-27-2008 08:49 AM

Nice heads, I got to dig a little for cam info.

hi-tech cobra 03-27-2008 09:16 AM

Cam is a 242/248 duration at .050"
112 lobe separation with 4 degrees advance ground into the camshaft

Same cam as in mine..

Hydraulic roller, I'm guessing? Lift? I ask only because I'm having Keith supply my heads and cam, and he's doing the Performer RPM over too. I'm getting a solid roller from him, same heads as yours. I'm having the short block assembled locally by a guy who's sort of an FE legend around here.

(By the way you should see the toy store this guy has, more NOS Cammers, new Cammer heads still in their original Holman / Moody boxes, Latham blowers, Tunnel ports, hi risers, tunnel port 302's, Boss 351's and 302's, 1970's and 80's 351C pro stock stuff, Boss 9's and ultra rare Ford racing parts that you'd ever believe - I walk around in a daze every time I go there. It's really unbelievable, I've never seen anything like it.)

Anyway, sorry for the drift. I have to look up the cam specs Keith is sending. With the 482" 11:1 shortblock, Keith is guessing 625 HP based on past builds he has done that are the same as mine. My local guy doesn't have a dyno so it's all I have to go by. I was just wondering what you had in yours, sounds like a great engine. Congrats and enjoy it.

hi-tech cobra 03-27-2008 11:48 AM

767Jockey,
Thanks, I don't have the cam specs yet.
Undy, can you post them?

hi-tech cobra 03-27-2008 11:51 AM

Yes, hydraulic roller.

242 int / 248 exh @ 0.050" 0.645" lift (int) 0.633" lift (exh) 112 lobe separation.

I actually was talking to Keith yesterday about this cam.
