Roush Motor Identification

I don't know much about Roush motors per se. I did sit around last nite and listen to two guys arguing about how the motor was marked on the valve covers. "427-XXXX-468" One guy was saying that the marking represented a 427 block stroked to 468 while the other guy argued that the 468 identified the build series and that Roush would provide all of the information based on that number. Does anyone know for sure which guy, if either of them, is right?

I've not seen the markings as you described. What I'm familiar with is "427R-xxx" where the 427R identifies the Roush engine type and the xxx is the build sequence number for that engine type

Ditto to what Jim mentioned....my motor is marked 402R - 323. 402R being the Stroked Cubes and 323 representing the number in series...the 323rd 402R produced (although mine is technically a 402SR).

THanks guys. That pretty much confirms what I was thinking.

I had 427R-095
It was the 95th 427R
The engines can vary from one 427R to the next. Roush has a file on each engine.

Also the serial number is stamped on the block in back by bell housing.
