Default Searching for my fathers Cobra

Hi,

My late father built a cobra In the early 90’s.

Car was a Canadian car from ontario.

It was a johnex kit, red with black seats.

He built a 289, not 427 and it was automatic. Car had a Ford badge in the nose instead of a snake.

Not sure if it exists still, any leads appreciated.

If this is not the Canadian forum please direct.

Thank

Bryan

Bryan, you are in the right place. This forum has members from all over the world, so if you are looking for your father's car, this is definitely a good place to start.
You mention that your father "built a 289" ....does this mean that it was a 289 body car?
Also...welcome to the forum, and good luck with your search.

Cheers,
Glen

No it was a 427 body - no side pipes.

Thanks for the welcome message.

Sounds like your Dad had extremely good taste! As you may already know, and your Dad for sure knew, after Ford closed down the Cobra program, with Carroll selling the name to Ford for $1.00, AC was allowed to continue making them. They made the AC289, which was a big block chassis and body, but, like the name implies, a small block Ford 289. Everything I have read, and the people I have talked to that drove those cars and raced them said the same thing, it was their favorite version of the Cobra for pure all around fun! And some of these guys drove most or all the variants of Cobra's! I just remembered, back in the early part of this century, when talking long distance which cost a lot, I talked to one of the gentlemen racers, of which there were many back in 60s-80s, who raced an AC289. He said the funniest thing, "a AC289 can merely pull down an oak tree, while a 427 can pull down a redwood!" I've drive two original 427s, though they may have been tarted up 428s, plus one of the few ARNTZ 454, through a couple of genuine 427s with unlimited HP, and I always remember that 289 MKII and the owner saying to the dumn punk broke kid, "well, get on it sun!" It felt like it could pull down a redwood tree! Even if you can't find his, a big block kit or Superformance big block with a 302 in it would be lots of fun! Good luck, Dennis
