Good morning folks:
By any chance do anyone of you guys have any idea as to the type of throwout bearing installed in our cars equipped with a 427 FE engines? I have a Centerforce Clutch Disk 388184 & centerforce diaphragm with a Dorman 690-032 pilot bushing coupled to a Ford Racing Flywheel M-6375-N427.
When these were installed (2 yedars ago)my mechanic just informed me that the throwout bearing (hydraulic ) was not changed (bad move on his part) now is making a grinding noise (intermittent) shifting is fine and no slipping but the noise comes and goes . So it was diagnosed as a troubled throwout bearing.
Any thoughts anyone?
tks

Hey Lou. It could any number of part number combinations. You need to know the pressure plate part number and the hydraulic slave part numbers to narrow down which bearing will fit without removing it. The hydraulic concentric slave cylinder mounted inside the trans has the throw out bearing at the end of the piston. And if the bearing itself is noisy (grinding???) you can apply light pressure to the clutch pedal and maybe influence the noise to confirm it’s the bearing. The fact that it’s shifting fine indicates the slave cylinder is working fine hydraulically. It’s likely 4-5 hrs a of labor and of course a $30 bearing Mine squeaks a little when cold but when warms up it’s quiet but it’s 14 years old. I live with it since it functions but one day it to will get worse.
I couldn’t use Centerforce clutch because the McLeod HTOB interfered with pressure plate centrifugal weights. So I went with all McLeod parts.

I know the Clutch and pressure plate #s , I called Centerforce and they cannot match that to a throwout bearing so I am waiting for my mechanic to give me a time to get it done. I don't want to venture out too far and have the car towed in, the flatbeds in the area are to steep of an angle for the car to clear the sidepipes .
Tks
Lou
