Perfection. Simply perfection.

ERA Chas 06-12-2013 07:26 AM

"What do you think??"
Why do a complete historic race scheme with every decal and sticker then conflict that with ricer fan boy 'murdered' look?
You junked it up.

DonC 06-12-2013 07:36 AM

Boy, tough room.

Tutosnake 06-12-2013 07:44 AM

Not the room... just one person;)

bmwdb10 06-12-2013 07:49 AM

Well.... I guess Chas doesn't like them! Next thing you know Patrick will be on here!

Truth to be told, the Gulf Livery is not my first choice. It simply came that way. If I had my druthers, it would be the same colors as my Contemporary... with black wheels! If this were P1075 it would have been a motal sin to do any such thing. But, hey... it's not! Remember, it's a replica and therefore a victim to my taste!

Now, on the bright side, I used a rubber paint from Dipyourcar.com. Cool stuff... When I grow tired of the black, it simply peels off and I am back to the "correct" look!

601HP 06-12-2013 08:13 AM

The wheel color isn't my first choice, BUT THOSE TIRES WITH THE AVON LETTERING WILL BE MY NEXT SET!:3DSMILE:;) I like 'em.

You will love them David... I had them on my Cobra as well and they are worth every red cent!

I think those wheels look pretty cool. And I only listen to Chas when he's right....

ERA Chas 06-12-2013 09:21 AM

Dave,
You asked what we think, I answered my thought. If you only wanted 'atta boys' you should not ask that.
I will tell you that when brake dust settles into the Plasti-Dip you will not like the look of an immaculate car with sad-looking wheels. Also it peels a bit with heat.
Sheldon-there's not right or wrong here. Just subjective.

And I'm always right...

bmwdb10 06-12-2013 09:29 AM

Chas,

All well understood! I accomplished what I set out for, to see how I like the car with black wheels without doing any damage. It will no doubt be back to orange and polished before long. Maybe I'll buy another set, paint them black and have both!

Good, bad or indifferent, opinions are welcome. I am not of thin skin! Thanks for the input!

RodKnock 06-12-2013 10:16 AM

I consider myself the ultimate arbiter of taste and while I like the look of the black wheels, I'd prefer the orange wheels with the Gulf livery.

Additionally, I like the look of the Avon tire too, and they're my preference for my next set of tires, there is something to be said about Goodyear Racing tires.

Nonetheless, gorgeous CAV!

Ironically, Chas was being considered for the next Secretary of State.

ERA Chas 06-12-2013 10:53 AM

Like.

SigSauer 06-12-2013 03:23 PM

I really like the look of the black wheels and Avon stenciling! That said, the PlastiDip would give me pause in regards to heat cycling and brake dust.

The two sets of wheels and tires (Show and Go) is perhaps the best way to achieve the historic look and then the "distressed Halibrand" look

Where did you source the stencil kit for the Avons?

Dave

Simply sweet!
Hope to see them from the seat of the 289 this year.....
Wiring on Saturday if you want to join....

Clayboy 06-12-2013 05:21 PM

I think it looks great, perhaps not historically accurate... but it looks like it means business. I also really liked Pat's GT40 with black wheels. Hey, it's yours do with it what you want. :)

I think it looks great! Well done!

bmwdb10 06-12-2013 06:33 PM

Thanks all! I always like the darker old look. Don't particularily care for anything polished.

I had one of my graphics guys draw up the stencil and then cut a few out of sticky wrap vinyl on our Mimaki plotter. They are only good for one tire, but it only took me about ten minutes to do them start to finish.
