Webers ON Finally!

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../RHSwebers.jpg

The original kit was set up for a Cobra. No provision for vacuum, and plumbing oriented for that setup. I sent the whole thing to Ian Clark of CAV Canada who did a great job of setting it up a vacuum source for me and went overboard in re-configuring the kit to fit my CAV. He also fabricated the heatshielding pan and anti-reversionary plate; unfortunately, the rear window glass gets in the way of the plate so we'll have to figure out something different there. So far, she runs great with the usual cough here and there but a sizeable gain in response and power, especially in the low end.
I'm a happy camper.

Looks nice. What did you have on the engine before?

Looks awsome too! Nutin like a set of Webers to complete the look of one of these cars! Congrats!:MECOOL:

Looks outstanding Ray. Nothing gets your heart racing like the thunder of a small block inhaling through a set of nicely tuned Webers!

You SM Blk guys see the cobra setup on Ebay?

JCoop 06-09-2006 12:29 PM

Thanks Rick. Hyde, I'm gettin the look down but was really bummed when the pair of Gurney-Westlake valve covers did not fit these heads. Maybe with some machining...

Joe, I had a really reliable 650 Holley Street Avenger on top of an Edelbrock Tunnel Ram for the first 1200 miles.

I'm getting a real nice fat thumping out the exhaust on decelleration and very little coughing at the carbs on sudden acceleration; which tells me the jetting is almost there. There is a prolonged burping at a constant 4000RPM which concerns me. At first, I thought I may not have dialed in enough fuel pressure (3PSI) but upon conferring with the gurus, I may have to fiddle with emulsion tubes and such...

I think I finally got the tunignright by changing the idle jets to 60s instead of the 70s that were installed in there. Sweet increase in power and driveability. Smooth acceleration from idle up to 6000!:D

They are nice when you get them close. I had the car down at the shop earlier this week to fit it to the trailer. We took it out for a little cruise%/ . Nice smooth pull all the way up:p Took a friend along...he's still breathin hard:LOL:

Those of you that have gone the Weber route; did you gasket match the individual runners, or install as cast? I found that several of threads on the manifold that I have were very questionable, so I machined them all and installed 8mm "Time Serts".

You guys are "Killn me"!

I've been watering my Money tree for 6 months. It has produced some fruit, but I'm still a ways away. I'll keep trying, maybe I need to fertilize it?

You'll get there, Rick! Keep plugging way. My manifool & runners lined up pretty well so I didn't do any extra work on them. The nice thing about the webr manifold is that you can set it on the block with heads & look down the runners to se how everything matches up.

Rick, the only fertilizer that will work is a healthy dose of Cam2 115 octane. Are you planning on IDFs or IDAs?

ENTDOC 07-01-2006 06:44 AM

Ray,it looks like I bought a CAV gt40. It does not have webers on it now but it does come with a set. I will be picking your brain when I go to set them up. thanks; chuck

blykins 07-01-2006 07:02 AM

Did you change the cam to work with that intake as well?

Rick Parker 07-01-2006 09:27 AM

I port matched the carbs to the manifold. I found when mounting the carbs on the manifold as cast, the carb flange overlapped some of the edges on the manifold. A little work with a die grinder and some emery rolls smoothed things out.

What jet combination did you end up with, correctors, airs mains, etc?

Ray,

You have a nice looking Weber setup. Anyone else need a Weber setup for a small block, I have one for sale, new, complete, polished and chromed:

Congratulations! I'm sure you're already logged onto GT40s.com, right?
Whenever you're ready, Chuck. PM me so I can give you my cell #.
Ignition timing was critical for my 302, and Weber-installed jetting was a little too optimistic (rich).

I stuck with the stock (B303 hyd)) cam as I have the Audi Getrag transaxle; which, I believe, is only rated max. 400hp. Even with that, I think I'm close to limits with the Webers, as I actually had to retorque the CV bolts that came loose from "spirited driving" while I was tuning.
