Default I took the plunge!!!!

I finally did it! I just bought the next RCR GT40. I just can't wait! I decided to go with the left hand drive. I added the six point cage, sway bars, 2 inch rear flare, gurney bubble, 15in BRM wheels, window hardware, 1 7/8 exhaust, both nose panels and Fran is going to install all the latches, cut and fit all the lexan, hang the doors, mount and fit all the body panels and install the dash among other things. I plan to upgrade the shocks to Penske 8100 series dual adjustable shocks. I am going with red w/ white stripes, a ZF tranny and a very stout 363 stroker with webers that will turn to 8000 rpm!

They only decisions left to make are regarding the coatings. Do you guys like the bare aluminum look or should I have chassis coated in a satin black?

I can't wait to get started!

Congrats Dean!
My preference would be bare aluminum.
Have you decided on color/scheme for the body?

You know I am a fan of Dan Gurney and he drove a red and white car for SAI in 1966 at le Mans. I think that will be my inspiration. Morris Clement is going to help with the suspension upgrades and chassis tuning. I spoke with him for about an hour today. This car is going to Rock!

Well it is about time for you to get Lisa a comprable ride. I bet next year at Run and Gun she out runs all of us.

Good move Dean and I am sure when you get it in I will probably need to come up and help you with the break in (drifting, off road excursions, etc). I was talking to Buzz about it yesterday and he will be right behind you in the order sequence. I do like the Red and White combo----good choice.

Out of curiosity, what would the ball park figure be for a completed car like that be?

Lew, There are a lot of variables. If I really shop for deals on ebay and my engine builder treats me right, my drive train should be around $20,000. That will be almost 600hp/550tq that will rev to 8000 rpm with a great 5 speed. Some people will spend more for the same stuff. I have a very good relationship with my builder. The car without body work should be around $50,000 with all the race options and none of the "bling" option. This car is being built in the spirit of the 1966 Le Mans cars (only it is a MKI). Those cars were not show cars, just very functional. I really don't care for a lot of the nickle plating or powder coating. Some of that could run the price up a bit. I think when it is all said and done I will be under $80,000. That will give me a car that is truly custom built just for me. I think you could build an RCR for around $68,000 if you built a more "moderate" GT.

$80k sounds very reasonable. Are you going to have airconditioning? Is a/c advised?

Yes that is with air. It is hard for me to focus on " the spirit of Le Mans 1966" with sweat running down the crack of my a$$! I sat in a SPF GT40 in June at 100 deg. in Tulsa and I can tell you that a/c is a must!

AGH! Yet another GT40 before I got a chance to order up one!

Congratulations and I'm guessing Hershal will have company next year at R&G!

I think you could build one for even a lot less if you are willing to settle for a bare bones (but still have AC) car. You could get the deluxe package for $41k, run an Audi box for around $2k, a pull out 5L motor for about $2k, and throw in some home body work, home paint job, and still have a very functional and fun GT40 for around $50-$55k if you tried real hard.

Pete, I have admired Hershal's car for 4 years now. I think for me to run any faster at R&G I would need a wing and front air dam. I just didn't want to do that to the FIA. The Gt is built for that stuff. Here's to R&G '07!

I'm still smiling from the ride Heshal gave me around the track at R&G - and we never exceeded the controlled speed (by much).

Dean, with any luck at all, there might be another GT40 or two at R&G. Maybe not in '07, but perhaps in '08!

Dean & Pete,
The GT40 is by far the most fun car I've had and I've have a few. You guys will see what I mean when you get one of your own on the track. Pete I wish I could have gone a wee bit quicker but I just didn't want to climb out of my car and have a great big towering scrunched up faced Texan lookin' at me. Just ain't worth it! .
Next year at R&G I'm coming PREPARED. lots of trick new stuff and I'm pretty sure I'll have to be in another class. This is going to be fun. I already started the changes.

Hersh
