Default Hurricane: still around?

Yeah, I know I could call them to see. But, wanted to know if anyone is still dealing with them. I had really liked the look of what they had to offer, but with their suspension of production then the move to Texas, they seemed to have fallen off the map.

I am north of you in Cypress. I was speaking with the new Hurricane owners about buying a kit but I found a good deal on a used 2006 Hurricane with 1600 miles, minus drivetrain. I have been working on it since Jan 1 installing all new aluminum engine bay panels, fixing exhaust leaks, tidying up the wiring and doing some general clean-up etc.

For the money, I think its a great kit and worth looking into at which point the new owners get rolling. Lots of negative threads about them because they have taken so long and not been real forthcoming with updates, but to each his own. The body is as close to a CSX as I have seen and it was supposedly pulled from an original and not modified in any way. I was up at the new Hurricane shop in Arlington in December and looked at chassis #1. They were making improvements to the jigs and body molds and the work looked good.

Shoot me a PM if you want to come up and see my car. The body is off and I am probably 10 days from dropping in the side oiler.

Thanks, Mariachi. I'll shoot you a PM pretty soon. Your car is looking good!

Also, it will be good to hear from you firsthand your Hurricane experiences.

There are build threads on Hurricane-motorsports.com in the owners forum that you can access if you are interested. We are all hoping they will reopen but no one is holding their breath waiting. Guys were ready with money to order and it's all on hold for now it seems....

The new owners will not answer the phone and have not made
a public post on the Hurricane website since August . They are
also ignoring previous customer complaints. I have paid for having
my headers ceramic coated twice . Several other owners have
headers that will not fit and have had to build their own . My
turn-key minus car was completey redone by Jay Nordstrom.
When he saw what the previous owners had done to my car,
he took it upon himself to make me a car that is very presentable
for a company that had pride in their product. For whatever reason,
Jay left and did not continue as a leader in the new company.
I have been very quiet and have not publically told of all the broken
promises made by the new owners to the previous buyers concerning
their Hurricane Cobra problems. I hope the new guys will eventually
get the Hurricane line up and going . The car is a nice kit and has
great potential . FYI they publically said they would help all owners
of the Hurricane family get their problems resolved. I was personally
promised a reinbursement of my double paying for ceramic coating.
I am new to the Cobra replica family of owners. I looked at FFR,
ERA, B&B (I wish now I had bought one from Brian and Karen) and
I almost sold my Piper Cub to buy a Kirkham . Anyway,
I was hell bent on the Hurricane and that is what I have. I hope
that my headers fit too............Or I, like several others, will be either
buying or making some at my own expense . To have 40K in a
car that the headers don't fit is VERY discouraging and knowing that
there are many fine kits out there that the pipes DO fit is a slap
in the face to the people that bought the Hurricane product .
This is just my personal experience and maybe there are not too
many that had problems.........even more reason to try and make
the previous buyers happy IMO. If the new owners don't do what they
say they will do.......and as of yet, they haven't. It will be very hard
in a weak economy to sell a car that they won't stand behind when
problems occur . New owners.......keep your word . I am just
disappointed and frustrated......(middle aged man ?? lol)

Well, at least they didn't take a bunch of orders and deposits and THEN go silent. That would have been much worse.

That's true. Still a lot of folks got told things re. fixs or replacements and there hasn't been much follow through on those commitments. We hear of folks visiting the factory/shop and what they are told and what they are shown seem like steps in the right direction, but then silence. Phones work, don't work, website hasn't been upgraded in a long time, names get thrown around. I really wanted this to work for the new owners. I didn't get my kit until things were already going down hill. I'm not out anything (that I know of ) but there are things that I will need to fix on my own now without any "factory" back up. Luckily there is a great forum still going and guys to help but the credit goes to M and R for that it seems. I'm all for Hurricane getting back on track and I still think there is a lot of support for them if they are open and receptive to some ideas from owners.
