Default Hey Andy

Andy, I need a measurement, from the top of the 1"x2" frame tube(the one that the 2 center ports of the headers go over) to the top of the wing nut on your air cleaner. I'm also curious as to the overall height on Jay's fuel injection settup too.I know there's few of us JBL guys, but the list is growing, so if you read this ,chime in with your measurments and manifold brand. thanks

Hey Mr Bruce

I hope this is where you mean

I took a few measurements for you to play with. From there to the top of a Holley carb seems to be roughly 13 1/8" on one side and 13 3/8" on the other since I was balancing a long straight edge. I then measured with the filter on and the measurement to the highest point on the filter (no stud or bolt sticking up) is 16.5". If you used a wingnut or high bolt, it would add 0.25" or more. The top of my filter has about a 0.25" indentation that you can put a lock nut or regular nut so 16.5 would be highest if you went that route.

I use a K&N 11" x 2" filter and the 11" Xtreme Flow Top
you can see some of it here
http://www.cobralads.com/backinblack/DSC00038.JPG.html

KN 11"x2" filter. From the K&N site it looks like E-1200 11" x 2.18" with 9" center area

KN 11" X-treme Air Flow Top part# 66-1101

I think this filter combo will work for most engines. Here is some of the math on it. The formula for needed airflow is at the bottom of this link or right at the top of the second link
http://www.knfilters.com/facts.htm
http://www.performanceunlimited.com/...iltercalc.html

depending on the engine and rpm

Area Needed = (CID x max RPM) / 20,839
my engine with a 7k redline then needs

(383 x 7000) / 20839 = 129 sq in (about 130)

My circular filter is 11 x 2 x 3.14 = 70

The Xtreme lid is 9" of useable material
Pie R squared
= 3.1416 x 4.5squared
= 64
70 from main filter and 64 from lid = 134 square inches

I am cutting it a bit close since there is about 4 inches in the cente that are not used by the plastic bolt down area. With the lid, there is enough airflow and it fits under my hood. Chuck Miller goes another route and used an oval 2" filter and no X-Treme top.

hope these measurements all help I can't wait to see some pics.

Andy
