I have read a little about the Trabant ... and they were not such great cars, but I understand that they now have a bit of a following. Some years ago, I believe it was Car and Driver magazine that tried to bring one into the US for a road test, but the Government would not let them drive it on the highway ... so there was a close up photo of a guy driving the Trabant ... then a similar shot of the same setup, but from further back showing the car was being pulled on a trailer ;)

Looks like the driver of this Trabant is getting it warmed up for a Smog check ... nice shoes ! :)

Thanks for the post!

When I first saw that commercial on TV I was in absolute awe. I must have Tivo'd it back and forth a dozen times, driving my wife crazy.

A real masterpiece.

An Austrian co-worker told me after the wall came down. The Trabant factory was open for tours. People gawked at the primitive manufacturing technologies.

Damn rednecks are all over the world!

lol, I don't think the Ferrari/Shell commercial had the disclaimer about the "closed course perfessional driver."

I've watched this at least 30 times over the last couple years. It is awesome and really drives the emotions.

I always liked the 60's V-12 F1 Ferraris, though you're right -- they didn't do too well.

This is the 69 edition at Monterey. They were warming it up at the time and I the sound from a distance of 3 feet was unbelievable.
