Ironman Cobra arrives
Reliable carriers certainly got here fast. I was not expecting the car to arrive for another week. We had to put the car on my trailer since the 18 wheeler could not get up our driveway. The car cleared by about an inch coming off the trailer. Scary stuff. She is tucked away in the garage with a 60 Austin Healey keeping her company for now.
Front and Rear spindles say prototype and old bearings, so i guess they are no good either. Now to try out my photo posting skils... http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSCN0133.jpg http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSCN0135.jpg |
looking forward
to the build!...looks like a great deal on a painted kirkham with a history...hopefully the parts to get it running won't break the bank...i'm sure David K will advise you on whats needed!

Very nice!
|
Congrats -- that will be a car to have 20 years from now for sure.
|
Four rear tires?
You picked up something special...have fun with it. Guess Kirkhams have arrived...special individual cars now garner interest...the Ironman car, the Copper Cobra. Reminds me of the Turd, the Big Vent, etc. |
Congrats.
I have never seen a Cobra trailered in reverse. No worries of the windshield parachuting the car, or simply breaking? |
From what was said I believe they only trailered the car down the drive seeing the Transport truck was to big to navigate down the drive.
|
Someone put both rear wheels on one side and both front wheels on the other.
Yes, we simply unloaded the car from the reliable carries truck onto my trailer and then went all of a quarter mile. I had no other choice than to load it backwards on the trailer. |
Good looking car and a very cool project ... you made a great purchase!
|
Great Car! Have fun with the build!
|
super deal on a real beauty. both back tyres on the drivers side were an old racers trick, makes cobras go faster
|
Have you figured out what it's going to cost to get everything from the big K? Should be a cool car when you're done.
|
Not sure on the prices yet. Thomas said he should have them today.
|
Please keep us posted especially on what is going to happen with the suspension stuff.
Did it come with a full wiring harness? |
Kirkham built it for the movie without a lot of the components to save on costs. No wiring, wiper motor, pedal assembly, two of the gauges are missing, etc etc. Its just a stripped down roller. No reason to have wiring in something that was never intended to have an engine or run. This car was afterall scheduled to get crushed if the first movie shot did not go as intended.
Here is another shot from yesterday. http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/a...ankirkham2.jpg |
You don't need no stinkin wipers...get chick with towel.
|
Well, if the wipers and linkage were not already there, i would not bother, but they have already been installed.

I just saw these threads. Congratulations on a really cool car!
The history of the cars is the movie people called up and asked us if they could have 2 cars delivered to them within a week  They were on a very tight time schedule and had to have the cars so they could be painted and ready for the shoot in a couple of weeks or so. I told them the only way it would be possible to deliver the cars on that time schedule was if we sent them suspension components that were completely unsuitable for any use beyond a static movie display. They readily agreed as they were going to crush the car in the shoot. They even wanted us to cut the chassis apart and put a solid axle in the car to make it cheaper. I told them we could get the cars to roll for their shoot with parts we had here and that would be much easier than cutting things apart. As such, there are no parts on the car that can be used beyond the frame and body. Even the seats had flaws in them. Nevertheless, with a new suspension and some other parts you will have a great ride. Please let me know how we can help! David :):):) |
I just noticed you emailed me! I'll get you answers today.
