You meant TV Robert Wagner.
Dave Wagner...long-time Cobra guy in MI. Kirkham dealer... has built some fantastic street replicas over the years. |
David Wagner is noted as a master Cobra restorer living in Detroit, Michigan. I worked with him at Ford Motor Company in Detroit back in the 80s and he was restoring Cobras back then. Think he's retired from Ford now but not sure as I moved to Dallas back in 1990 and lost touch with him.
|
Dave was the "OEM" powertrain guy at Ford Power Products in the mid 80s and was responsible for suppling Autokraft with engines and transmissions for the AC MK IV.
I gave Dave his his first ever Cobra ride and drive at SAAC in Pocono circa 1985. |
Does anyone have a website or contact details for David Wagner??
Cheers |
Dave Wagner
I worked with Dave Wagner at Ford for many years. He has retired from Ford - he went to work for Roush for a while, but didn't have enough time to devote to the Cobras in his garage, so he retired from there, too
Dave has been a Shelby dealer and a Kirkham dealer. He can restore your tired old original Cobra into Concours winning dream machine, or build you a fire-breathing Kirkham to play with at the track. Dave does not have a website. If you send me an e-mail or PM, I can get you his contact information. regards, Jeff |
He is a very nice guy and does great work, but just make sure to schedule your work when he has a window of time to do it in, not among numerous other projects he has going at the same time.
|
Dave is a fantastic person and is very knowledgeable about original and Kirkham Cobras. He also imported cars from AC in the mid '90s if I remember correctly.
If you were at last years SAAC at Sears Point, he restored the black 289 Cobra that was concours judged. Bert Brown |
David is a terrific engineer, fabricator and project manager. He has done several projects for me very much to my satisfaction. i've known him for over fifteen years from his FORD rep days at AC Cars in GB.
No reservations on the recommendation. i would trust him on any Cobra project of any complexity. His knowledge of historical configuration is very precise. He is usually very busy, so i don't waste his time on the phone. Victor |

Here's another David Wagner eBay listing for a nice brand new red 289 Kirkham street model. Price = $140,000.

Hey.. saw a thread about my dad and figured I'd chime in. I'm Dave's son Mike, and have been helping him build Cobras since I was just a little guy. I own a landscape company now, but still help when I can. An 80 hp skid steer just doesnt compare to 600 hp big block :)
I see some familiar names on here ( Jeff, Victor, David K) -- Hello to you all too. My dad is a busy guy, but like Jeff offered, email me if you need anything and Ill pass it along. Mikedwagner@gmail.com I'll try to keep on here a bit now that Im registered. Take care! |
I've been looking at the red 289 Cobra he built that is for sale on Club Cobra and it is an amazing car. The detail is amazing.
|
My kirkham 289 lemans car is currently at dave's to have the finishing touches completed. His work is amazing and so is his shop. You would be hard pressed to find a better organized person. He restored my buddy's cobra CSX2148. Dave's work is top notch. You definitely get what you pay for.

He's been known to go by the name of John Galt. ;)

Hi all, and happy Autumn. Trees are looking beautiful here in MI.
I've heard from a number of you regarding our cars, thanks for the interest and support! It's great to hear from you. I'm now working full time with my dad building Kirkhams and restoring Cobras, no more landscaping. Can you blame me? We have a number of projects in the works, Cobra Pack's car is at the top of the list - it's turning out to be a great USRRC Kirkham! In case anyone knows someone looking for a Cobra, we have two for sale, a 289 Slab Side and a 427 Street car, which actually has a small-block in it. The 289 can be seen at DynamicAutoWest.net and the 427 is on Craigslist, of all places. Link is: NEW 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra - Aluminum Bodied Kirkham . Both are new with only a few hundred miles, both great drivers. Email me @ mikedwagner@gmail.com for anything you may need. 'Til next time, Mike |
Hello Mike
Mike,
Gruff here. You are are building that Silver Mink SC for me. Your Dad may have told you of my visit to MI a while back when I flew an F-18 into Willow Run. Hope to be visiting soon and meet you face to face. All the best, GRUFF |

Who hasn't heard of your flight into Michigan!? I thought pulling up in a Cobra was cool.. but landing in an F18? If I was better at video games as a kid I may have given the USAF a shot, that would be the ultimate career for me! We did some work on your car today, got a lot of the suspension prepped and painted. Wheels are well on their way, and we're going to start working hard on prepping the body for paint now. Looking forward to your visit in a month or so. Take care! -Mike |
Mike,
Good to hear from you. I am looking forward to meeting you and getting some "hands on" time with the car. See you guys in a few weeks. Thanks, GRUFF |
Mike,
Just out of curosity, did your family live in Richmond, IN on Autumn Way in the mid 80's? If so, your Dad and I swapped rides one sunny afternoon after becoming acquainted at the Wendy's Cruisin-in on National Rd East. I remember when his transfer to Detroit presented and your Dad offered his 427 for sale. If our Eurospec'd 930 turbo hadn't just cleared customs and it's federalization, we would have jumped on his offer! |
