cyclopolisher Has anyone used one to polish their kirkham
I was thinking of buying one for my polished car. I have buffed regular paint with a reg buffer. I haven't used anything except my hand on my car. That technique is getting old!

I've looked at the various websites and it doesn't look all that difficult, especially if you have experience with machine polishing already, but the cyclo is $300+ materials. I haven't even touched my car yet, since it still looks good, but I was planning to polish by hand and see what type of results I get. How were your results via hand?

Yes, that car has been listed for a long time.
They all start out that way from Kirkham, but a few years later, they need a little refreshening.

Don't kid yourself. Kirkham polished mine as well. They don't look like his to start. He went over his extensively to make it look like that

By hand you can get it pretty good. I suppose you really could polish to a reflection close to the cyclo. However, I do believe you would fatigue before that happened. My car looks about the way it was when I got it from Kirkham. It has been in a heated garage since. It is beautiful but not close to the car above. That is another level. Frankly, I'm not that fussy

I've got pics of the car when it was delivered to me in 2007. I thought it looked awesome. it still looks good, but I would like to get it back to its delivery state.
Do you tape off the stripes? Have you been using Nuvite S? Do you use cloth or microfiber towels?

One thing I read on another site about polishing aluminum is the amount of time you spend polishing one spot. It is important when you get down to the final finish (with Nuvite S) that you do a small amount of polish and a quick touch with the polisher. If you hold the polisher in one spot too long, you will start to get scratches. A clean polisher pad is important as any dust or hardened polish causes swirls, spider webs and holograms.
I have not had luck trying to polish with microfiber by hand. I always get little microfiber streaks in it.

Joe Weight had mentioned some time ago NOT using microfiber towels for that exact reason.
What type of polisher do you use? Porter Cable 7424 or the Cyclo? Or something else? |

Diaper cloths, by hand for your final finish.
No machine will ever get it to this level, like spit shining shoes.
When you get tired of this, sand it (brushed finish).  |

I tape my stripes before I polish the car. I then tape the polished surface to hit the stripes. I have been using towels. I can't seem to get everything out with the towels. I think you need a buffer

It's actually not that hard at all. We have no chips to repair. It takes a few minutes to tape the stripes and then you polish. It's not dificult or time consuming at all

Cyclo polisher are worth their weight in gold !
I imported one into Australia as they are $1000.00 Aus here from janecosales.com $265.00 US$ .
Best investment ,saves heaps of time and does a great job but then again i only have 2 stripes not the other way around !
Great for the boat too.

I acquired a cyclo and use it with 2 foot by 2 foot fleece. I had Kirkham sand mine to the 320 grit level, and thn I sanded it with 600/800/1200 grit, then polished it with nuvite, f7, then f9, then "s" compound. The Cyclo is a handful when using it with the fleece. I touch it up with Nuvite "S" by hand with the fleece. As others have mentioned, my car doesn't look as good as the above hotlink.
