Having had many political discussions with David, I can tell you he is the real deal! He is passionate and sensible. No ego or personal financial gain motivating him. Being a great car builder and businessman is just a bonus. Peace, Darren

In my experience those are the hardest people to get to do what I want them to do.

Should you win, will KMS remain the same?

Is there a deadline on when you have to decide on running or not?

I would think that being a U.S. Senator would probably be more satisfying from a political standpoint if you are interested in changing laws (for example simplifying taxes for businesses) or trying to balance the budget. What would motivate you to want to run for governor?

(Hmm, I sort of remember this thread going way off topic with Patrickt, Rod Knock and me, but those posts aren't here. I guess that I just must have imagined that or it was a different thread... :JEKYLHYDE )

The deadline for filing is some time in March (if I remember right--the dates may have changed). Most races will be "settled" on who is running by January I imagine. Our convention is in April 2012.

Motivations are the same for both races--to make things better for businesses to start and to grow so we can all have a better standard of living. I am also keenly interested in education.

Well, it is a family business.
It may not have the same rudder without David but I wouldn't call it resting on one's laurels, either.
One term, maybe. But no more!

RodKnock 10-21-2011 03:33 PM

Wow, I might be able to say I bought a car from a Governor or Senator someday.

Kinda like a pencil with bite marks from John Voight's car.

Thanks-but I hope you mean in the management sense, NOT the product sense.

Very true but who would you want on our side?

ERA Chas 10-21-2011 05:22 PM

Certainly David but I'm not sure ethics can let him choose 'our' side.

rodneym 10-21-2011 05:32 PM

Ethics scmethics. Too many open ended questions.

David may be more of of an objectivist. **)

I'm sure if David operates the state as well as his company, the citizens of Utah will have nothing to worry about.;)

If you need someone to help look after the shop and keep Thomas busy let me know. I could use a break from healthcare.:D Darren

It's official - David Kirkham for Governor

Provo • Packing tea party credentials and touting his business background, David Kirkham jumped into the governor’s race Wednesday with plans to boost Utah business and bust a controversial guest-worker law.

"I will do everything in my power so the people of Utah can arise and be that shining light on the hill for all of the United States," said Kirkham, invoking the rhetoric of Republican icon Ronald Reagan.
