Poll Kirkham For Governor

Gentlemen,

As many of you know, I have become very active in Utah politics over the past couple of years.

A prominent Utah political blog created a poll on the potential candidates running for statewide office. This link was sent to me this morning. I was placed against the sitting governor (Gary Herbert) and a few other potential candidates. Many people have asked me to run for governor and I am considering a run. The media is now polling on it.

Go for it, how cool would it be for the governers motorcade to be a row of fully polished cobras. That would get there attention.

LMH 10-18-2011 08:49 PM

I would cast my vote for you. If I lived in Utah that is.

Please no disrespect to you David, I love your car and your company, but I do wish politics would stay out of ClubCobra.

What if another CC sponsor wanted to post about his or her Proposition on the ballot in XYZ State? It's a slippery slope.

My humblest apologies.

Go for it! this is exactly what we need across this country, CITIZENS running things, NOT polititions

Buzz 10-19-2011 03:47 AM

Brother Bruce - the sad thing is, citizens who get into politics are politicians!;)

Enough of this car stuff, how does David feel about Gun Control, Abortion, Vouchers for Private School, Legalization of Marijuana, and the list goes on....:p

Here's a question for the fledgling politician. If elected, which of the following would MOST guide you decision making on matters of policy?
  • Your own views about what is best for your constituents
  • The views of those who supported your election
  • The views of all residents including those who don't vote and may strongly disagree with you

Said another way, are politicians elected to do what they think is best, or to do what the majority wants them to do (even when the majority is wrong in the eyes of the politician)?

Oh, and here's one more question better suited for a candidate for the senate than governor, but as long as the politics door has been opened ......
What should a senator do when, in his own opinion, a matter is good for the country but bad for his local constituents? In other words, should congressmen be held accountable for protecting the entire country, or just their districts?

David,

As I said when we spoke earlier this month, I think with your "tell it like it is" attitude, and your penchant for not playing games, you would be a breath of fresh air in whatever political arena you decided to be in.

Guys,

Thanks for the kind words, emails, and support. I sincerely appreciate it. We have been on Club Cobra almost from the beginning (we lurked for some time while our attorneys debated if we should be part of this new blogging thing  ) Finally, I couldn't stand by any longer and joined you guys anyway  What a ride it has been. I only post these political things to keep you guys in the loop. As for answering, or entering into deep political discussion, that is for another day. It is certainly not my intention so start a political mud-slinging contest. A rubber burning contest--that's another story :D

Even though I do like the idea of a row of polished Cobras glimmering in the sun, I am not much into motorcades, pomp, or circumstance. I'd rather we all solved problems--like education.

David, I always like to know the position on key issues before endorsing anyone. You are the kind of guy I would vote for (if I could vote in UT), but like Patrick I need more info.

WTF?!? You mean you won't just blindly vote for him because he builds cool cars? What's wrong with you?

David Kirkham 10-19-2011 08:39 AM

Guys,

Just to be clear. I have not decided to run by any means. I am not asking for support, votes, or money. (I didn't ask for the above poll to be done). When I said above "thanks for the support" above I should have said, "encouragement." I'm just letting you all know what is happening, as it might have some small effect on our industry.

I am happy to answer specific questions on policy, but I don't think this is the right place.

I thought you were going to be a Senator, but you changed your mind?

Good luck if you go for it! Just remember to spend other people's money to get elected.

David,

I know your stance and beliefs and think that if you did decide to run, you would be a fresh breath of air to a stale old boys club. Although I am not in Utah, my brother is in Provo and we would support you how ever we can.

I haven't changed my mind. I have been asked to run for both.

Question for David....

For the sake of argument, lets just say you win both. Which would you take?

That would be pretty cool to see someone win both the governor seat and senate seat at the same time.

Jamo 10-20-2011 03:57 AM

You know how I feel.

BTW, don't look now, but you're winning the poll...all them Poles are weighing in.

mreid 10-20-2011 05:26 AM

Jamo, you're a crack up!

David, governor or senator, if your policy and platform perspectives are appropriate (that means inline with mine!), your impact will be felt much more broadly than Utah. I say go for it and let's see what you got!
