Refreshing a brushed finish
Once upon a time, there was a procedure for rejuvenating a brushed finish, but i can't find it anymore. In the process of dropping my motor in and doing all the wiring, the car had taken a bit of a beating. Does anyone have a good sequence of grits and materials for redoing the brushed finish?

I'd call the Kirkhams and ask.

Or you could test in a hidden area with this:

I think philminotti means more than a clean.
I'd definately give the K's a call. I believe it involves a course round of sandpaper, like 120 grit or so. The brush scratches very easy, so it would need a refresher every few years if you want it to look that way. I simply correct areas with the red 3M scuffer. After a while, it dulls and blends ok. BIG job to do the whole car, though. |
I'm assuming it doesn't need to be cleaned, but here's what Kirkham recommended at one point:

May sound crazy, but I've used a good paste wax to make the car easier to clean. I go with the grain of the sanding. Dirt and road grime come off easily. Mine is brushed aluminum.

Rebrushing the car is pretty easy. I got a few red 3M pads at the local hardware store and just brush it in the direction of brushing, front to back. Is that what you are asking? Pretty simple job really…

Wax works pretty well to protect the finish.
