Kirkham finish

Hi guys,

What finish would you choose for a new Kirkham?

1, file finish to send to paint
2, What color paint if you select #1?
3, polished
4, brushed

Just curious what is the most popular, I personally prefer the brushed finish for low up keep.

No doubt about it...Paint!

Me too, paint. Color should be a personal choice. I will say, people that don't even know what my car is (replica or otherwise), say "what a pretty color".

I prefer the brushed finish. Easy maintenance and most people I have met
think it is cool. No guessing - is it fiber glass or aluminum? either.
For me the easy upkeep is tops - I'd rather be driving than polishing.

I had mine painted black with a Ferrari red stripe, upkeep was constant, it was clean for about 20 seconds, I'd do the brushed next time.

I like my brushed with polished stripes. That being said, it gets fine scratches across the brushed grain just by looking at it cross-eyed. I don't mind it as it gives it a bit of an authentic look. And contrary to what you may read, Scotch-brite pads do not restore the original brushed grain. I've tried them all. It can improve the situation but it is a far cry from the original look. JMHO.

Thanks for all the replies, so far polish has no takers.

I would have thought that polish would win the poll.

Go with beige. Dirt just blends right in.

Al,

I remember loving the color combo on your car.

Polished, every single piece, it's a Kirkham, paint fiberglass, polish aluminum...

My Kirkham is polished I love it upkeep is easy

Why would you paint a work art like the Kirkham? That's the "signature" finish of a Kirkham.

Polished is beautiful and 99% of Cobra are painted, so if you want to be unique, then there's only one way to go.

Exactly. Polish every piece and then sit back and stare at it for hours on end, then go drive it so everyone can enjoy a Polished car, then go back to the garage and polish it, and stare at it and do it all over again, what could be better than that...

Yeah so pretty much a polished alloy surface is a black car on steroids. Frankly I've seen 20 or so and never saw one of those low maintenence no swirl surfaces. Tha csx7000 at BJ was an embarrassment even mothers where it was parked wouldn't work on it any more

RodKnock 11-22-2015 08:57 PM

I own a black car and I own a polished alloy Kirkham. The polished finish is easier to keep clean and maintain than the black car. Not even close.

Mothers Billet Metal Polish or the Nuvite series of polishes. Use the proper polish and it's not really that difficult. Thankfully, I haven't had to do much during the last 8 years. Also, the climate is reasonably mild here in the SF Bay Area, which helps too.

Well, that is one way to look at it.:p

I love the swirl marks, adds character, especially when I make them, if I sell it I will polish it nice and pretty for the pictures, other then that, maintain it and enjoy it...

KMP600 started out as brushed with polished stripes. I liked it in theory but I was never very happy with it. Later I brushed the stripes and it was an improvement but looking back, all brushed would have worked out best as far as no paint options go. It's a badass look.
All polished Kirkhams are beautiful. I'm glad folks have them but they're not for me.
People said I'd hate the black finish but I'm loving it. The little scratches buff out really easily with Griots compound. Nothing looks better than black too, IMO.
Any way you slice it, you can't go wrong.
