Floor Jack Lifting

What is the suggested Floor Jack lift; Side to side or front to back. The front end is a no brainer. I bought an AC Jack and it can slide under the rear past the gas tank, but not sure of a pickup point in the IRS area.

Thanks

Gary

Gary,

As you say, "The front is a no-brainer." However, the back is a bit of a challenge. It's a bit tight under the tank, particuarly for operating the jack handle. This also applies to going under the side pipe in front of the rear wheel. To solve this problem I keep four 8-inch long sections of 2X8's to drive up on, making enough room to roll the floor jack under the side pipes. Then, with a soft pad, I catch the crossmember supporting the pinion nose and up we go.

Note: I get the front up and supported with jack stands before raising the rear.

You know what? A drive-on lift works best of all! All it takes is a little more $$$$$ and room. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/s...t=1&thecat=500

I usually go off of the 1/8" steel channel crossmember that has 3 holes in it. Maybe thats wrong, but I have yet to have a problem.
