Market value?
What is the realistic market value for a completed Kirkham with the Shelby FE in it?
|
are you selling already??
|
You looking to sell already? Or just wanting perspectives on what your car is worth?
|
Best advice..... Forget about market value. Enjoy your car. Drive it like you stole it. Take it to a track and get a permanent smile plastered on your face. Modify it until it's exactly what you want. When you are all done and can't or won't drive it anymore.....then sell it. It's value will depend on how close it is to someone else's dream car. There is no prescribed value, having a Kirkham is a good start.:D

Rob, for insurance purposes?
|
I'm curious to see if they are one of those money pits that you keep dumping money into but will never get it out, like other projects I have done in the past, or if it has a good value when complete. . . .
Ps. I have driven it for about 40 miles total and absolutely loved it. . .but it's off for completion. . . |
It will be worth more if you just dont drive it. Keep it in the garage for two years and I'll bet you'll get about 80,000. Depending on whether we are in a recession at that time or not.

Jamo,
As far as insurance, it's insured for what I spent to get it done. . . Dane, I plan to drive it as much as possible, even if it means coming home with ears bleeding. . . All, I was just curious what these things are really worth and selling for, because I have seen CSX fiberglass cars selling for $80,000 and I know they cost more than that to complete. . . I have also seen CSX aluminium  cars cost $150K to complete, but have never seen one sell for that much. . . I was hoping this would be a good investment, better than say buying a production car and have it lose value as they do. . . . it would be a great argument for the wife. . . . "see honey, it was a good investment" No, she's not giving me a hard time, but I can tell she's not "into it" either. . . |
Something made out of aluminum and other exotic materials that would be a good investment would be a biz jet that a person could jet around in to visit their oil wells/refineries/gas stations
Any one looking for a retired very experienced pilot?????? Jerry |

Bottom line, unless you add a dollar value to your enjoyment factor, a Cobra is not really a good investment. Bill S. |

now it's getting way off the subject. . . . |
Rob ~ my girlfriend doesn't care for the whole cobra thing either, although she will go for the occasional drive (once a year).
As far as market values go.......good question. My budget did not allow me to purchase new and I was fortunate to find a seller that was anxious to sell. Do I consider my car an investment......you bet.......its an investment in my health, both mental and physical. Nothing relieves stress better than a drive in the cobra. |

Cobra replicas - as an investment, not a good idea. As a well spent "enjoyment dollar", if you like these cars, it is very hard to match. I had a Unique that I bought used, drove it 4,000 -5,000 miles over 2 years, and sold (to buy a new cobra), and I recovered my cost for the car and a motor modification that I did (new heads and cam). Pretty hard to match with any "production" car. I plan on keeping my new cobra until I can no longer drive it. If it is 15 years old, it will be worth a lot more than any 15 year old production car, so on a comparitive basis, it IS a much better buy / investment than almost ANY other car. (again, this is an OPINION, so please take it as such). Have fun and drive that thing!

Tell her you care.
Tell her you care but don't make her come to the garage to hear it. Then tell her she means more to you than the stupid car. When she goes back inside the house appologize to the cobra.
|
bases on recent sales of comparable cars I would say 82-85 K depending on options of course
|
I didn't buy a Cobra replica as an investment. . . .
thanks for all your feedback. I guess it sounds like the going price is around $85K Good know, but can't use investment as a bonus. . . don't worry she's cool with it, she just wants to hear more about other stuff, that's my fault. . . I think she wants to talk about other car stuff. . . :JEKYLHYDE . . . see I'm in tune. . . |
While the value probably won't go up, I don't think it will suffer from any depreciation either. The longer you keep it, the better value TO YOU it becomes. For instance, if you paid $80,000, drove it for ten years and then sold it for $80,000, it would have become a free car to you (less inflation).
The value of ten years of enjoyment? Priceless!!! |
Just figure that every hour you drive it saves you the cost of an expensive shrink.
After a few years it will be pure equity. |
