B, we never go to your gallery to look at cars. :3DSMILE:

And you lowered the reserve?

onefastmustang 07-12-2007 12:41 PM

I would be all over that auction if I didn't value my marriage. Having just sold all of my stock that would be a great place to spend some of it.. ;>)

Is it possible this car will appreciate overtime to more than what has been put in it or will sell for? In other words an investment. Is it necessary to keep the miles of it in order for it to retain its value? These utlra high end cars lead me to beleive the buyer has the funds and is more concerned with exactly what he wants than the price, although this car has everything I would want besides a 427 side oiler, I guess if you are going as close to the original as possible the engine should also mimick the original.

I don't know about appreciating, unless the Kirkhams quit making them. . .

I deciced not to go with an original side oiler because I wanted the aluminum block and the big cubes. . . you're right, I spared no expense, nothing but the best and I never asked "how much?"

It Is For Sale No More

After numerous phone calls and describing the car over and over again and describing the Kirkhams over and over again, I realized that this is nuts and I will make some modifications and keep the car.

It is too nice. The problems areas that were really bothering me were heat, exhaust fumes and loudness. I'm going to figure out a way of ventilating better and use ear plugs. . . oh yeah, also the tinkering it needs. That too has grown on me. . .

That car is too awesome to sell. After 700 miles, it really grew on me. . . I think I will like it even better in the fall. . .

I cancelled the ads. It's mine!

700 miles in just over a month, I think you like the car alot!!! Make sure your engine has a PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve, it goes on the valve cover and the discharge of the PCV goes to the base of the carburator with a rubber fuel line hose. Cost about five dollars. I am sure it robs .0977894323423 hp, it is an emission device that recirculates crankcase vapors to the carburator to be burned in combustion.

Jamo 07-18-2007 08:52 PM

Forgot to tell you that...they are much more comfortable when it's cool outside.

Glad you're willing to let it grow on you. ;)

got one of those on the back of the intake to the base of the carb. . . plus two breathers on valve covers and they still spit oil. . .another project. ..

That is the essence of these cars. If you can come to accept that, you will be at peace with the car and will love it. If you can't accept it, it will be back on the market before too long!

Glad you decided to hold onto it and enjoy it.

Your not suppose to have a breather with a pcv.

I was told that I needed both. . .

sidewaysinthird 07-19-2007 06:32 AM

I'm glad you two worked out your differences...

Rob,

Your's has to be one of the best builds I've seen, or at least one of the best documented. The car is simply fantastic. Good luck getting everything tweaked to your preference. I'm glad you didn't sell it also.

By the way thanks for the wonderful build page!

How is clean air supposed to get in the engine? The PCV valve has to suck something.

Noting that PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation and knowing that the PCV valve is routed to the underside of the carb for full manifold vacuum; I would surmise that the factories are correct in allowing a circulatory flow coming in through at least one breather (normally mounted on a valve cover) and out through the PCV valve to manifold vacuum. If there is no breather in this system then the crankcase will be subjected to very hi vacuum levels during off throttle operation and could dislodge a variety of gaskets. Two breathers may be overkill but at least one is necessary for the system (PCV) to function.

Sure you are.. When the PCV sucks all of that poison out of the engine the engine needs to get fresh air from somewhere. I just went through this with the BAR here in California.

rsimoes 07-19-2007 08:09 AM

So why are my breathers still throwing up oil onto the valve covers?

turnpike boy 07-19-2007 08:09 AM

PCV systems vent off a POSITIVE crankcase pressure that arises from blowby - a mixture of air, fuel vapor, and oil vapor forced past the piston rings into the crankcase. If you don't vent this pressure it will eventually find its' own way out - past a gasket somewhere, generally.

You do NOT need a breather to make this system work - on the contrary, a breather circumvents proper operation by giving the system something to consume OTHER than crankcase vapors. What you do need is a properly-sized PCV valve, one that is sized in accordance with the expected volume of vapor.

This is why PCV systems replaced breathers in the first place. Breathers allow those vapors out into the atmosphere; PCV's pull them back into the engine to be burned off with the normal mix.
