Brake thumping sound. . .
I have a slight brake thumping sound when hard breaking. Does anyone else have this? Is this normal? What could it be? Should I ignore it?
Edit: the noise is on the rear left only.

How close to the brakes are your wheel weights?
What is the ride height set at? Maybe the tires are rubbing the brake vents or something else?

The Kirkhams just had my car and went through all of that. . . the wheel weights are clipped on the edge of the rim and do not hit anything. . .
BTW, the noise is on the rear left. . .

What kind of thumping is it? Can you feel it in the pedal? Does it affect the cars attitude? Does it sound dampened as if in fluid?
How close are the Ujoints to the frame where the axle pass thru?
Is it a single thump or rythmic?

Parking brake?
Rismoes, I had a strange sound which I isolated as the parking brake assembly where it comes very close to the inside of the wheel. When the regular brake was applied the parking brake bracket would flex enough to make a noise. Don't know if I would call it thumping but you can see if you have this by looking very closely at the inside of the wheel. Where in PA. I'm originally from Pittsburgh.

Was the left rear rotor measured to make sure it was in spec for run-out and DTV (disc thickness variation)? With respect to DTV, this can translate back into the suspension as vibration or thumping.

Car on ebay
rsimoes,
I saw your car for sale on ebay today. After all of your efforts you are going to sell it? How much are you asking?

That's probably what I have too. The Kirkhams have looked at it and found nothing wrong. I just wanted to know what it was. It works well.
So I guess it's just of of those things.

If you have the same Ebrake that I do it's probably the spring touching the outer edge of the rotor. You can also push that spring away from the rotor.

There is a shim kit for sale for about 20 dollars that is specifically built for the Willwood brake system. The brakes are desigend to be high performance, rattles and squeaks are are not a major concern. The kit looks fairly easy to install, I dont think you even have to remove the brake assembly. You find infor about it on the SCOF ownere forum. I cant guarantee that it will stop the noise but it would be the first place I would start.
