Dr. Dehart wanted a little "Don't Tread on Me" decoration for his car as well. Here you can see the 3 Musketeers getting ready to lead the charge.

I took this picture on the drive up on I-15. We had honks and waves all the way. Notice we put our license plates on upside down. I thought about flying the American flag upside down (country in distress), but I just couldn't bring myself to do it--so we all turned our license plates upside down. Also, on the way up, we all left our turn signals on the left hand blinker--protesting the lurch to the left our country has taken. On the way home, we turned the right turn signals on--in the hopes we had moved at least a little away from socialism. I guess you can call that conservative civil disobedience.

The coolest thing was when we got to the capitol, a highway patrol woman pulled Sandwich over. She told him she could ticket him for the upside down plate. Sandwich started to explain and the officer about the protest and she said, " I know! I know! Don't worry, I'm with you! I just wanted to tell you that you really shouldn't bring those flag poles inside, security, you know." I think there are more and more people who think like we do than we are aware of.

This is a shot of the Capitol as it appeared in my windshield. I'm not ashamed to say I felt like I was actually going to do something today that needed doing.

Sandwich was really getting into the revolutionary thing.

One of my favorites. Kirkham trying their hand at a few political cartoons.

I especially liked this one. I must admit, my brother Thomas was the brains behind these. The water bucket is a specific reference to Rick Santelli's "Shout Heard Round the World."

People's creativity never ceases to amaze me--especially when they are mad. I loved this one. The other thing that struck me was how friendly everyone was to each other.

Thomas reminded me the French Revolution started with a tax protest...The American Revolution started with a Tea Party! Hopefully, this ball will keep rolling.

The funny thing was I doubt anyone there was in the "new $250K+ tax bracket." Just ordinary people who were "mad as hell and weren't going to take it any more."

David,

Excellent speech! All you guys - thank you very much for what you did.
Great pictures too - those Cobras looked awesome. Hopefully this is just
the beginning to put an end to this wasteful, out of control, spending.

Thanks for the kind words! I liked the reference by Regan; yes, we do need to stop feeding the monster.

Here is another article on it in the local news.

Impressive and a great speech by David. Nothing could be more entrepreneurial than building your own cars, whether a manufacturer like the Kirkhams, Portantes, Smiths, et al. or each member of this forum that invests so many hours in building their own ride. While many of us have periodically needed a little advice (as furnished by other members of this forum) to get the job done, I have never seen anyone ask for a bailout. :) The economic environment that makes entrepreneurism in America possible is under seige. We all know it. Freedom, entrepreneurism, and capitalism are all necesary to make it work. Lose any component and what America stands begins to pale. Hopefully, more events like this are just a beginning. I am already planning on Chicago in July if it unfolds. Entrepreneurs and small business owners are waking up to what is truly at stake here.....their continued existence and a nation of opportunity for their children and grandchildren. Just as America's entrepreneurs have the right to succeed, they must also have the right to fail. A true entrepreneur will pick himself up, dust himself off, and try again, learning from his mistakes. Now, if we could just get that "rattler" on the Minuteman / Gadsden flags to look more like a Cobra.

David Kirkham 03-09-2009 12:07 AM

RedEsprit,

We will be doing more and more of these events. We have to get their attention somehow. I am thinking we need to do a national event???

How about a Freedom Ride--across the country?

For anyone who is interested, here is the YouTube of my speech. I was so nervous I thought someone had stuffed my mouth full cotton! Now I really know why the call it cotton mouth!

Let's see if this works better.

David ... at the risk of taking this thread off on a tangent . Could you be classified as an automobile manufacturer since you do complete cars ? Where I`m going ( a long shot ) , could some of your customers qualify for the new tax credit the Chosen One is making available for a new car purchased in 2009 ?
Just a thought .
Back on topic , looks like the tea parties are picking up some momentum ... lets hope everyone joins in and sends the bags not just to Washington , but to your local legislators also . It`s sickening to see them all falling over themselves to spend the new found ( mine and yours ) money on their pet projects that wouldn`t normally be funded .... and will only serve to increase taxes to pay for the new items/maintenance etc after the money has run out.
BTW , great speech ... I would love to send it to one of my Senators , Lindsey Graham , who has been siding with Obama lately ... with your permission of course .
Thanks for what you are doing !!

David Kirkham 03-09-2009 10:28 AM

Bobcat,

Thank you for your kind words on my speech. I gave from the heart. I am only warning people of what we have seen. The end of the road of Socialism is not pretty. As I said in my speech, these policies of wealth destruction will "metastasize into trickle down despair." You are welcome to send it to anyone who might think it worth reading (or watching).

Nope, David wouldn't want to go there. An "auto manufacturer" has to produce vehicles that meet all current emissions and crash safety regs. Take a look at an Aurora, or Autocar to get an idea what your up against. (granted these only met standards from 10 years ago)

David's taking a pretty big risk as it is, tick off the right people in DC and next thing you know all these "exemptions" start going away. Now all you have is a race car that can't be operated on the street. Not that there aren't people out there who already want you off the road.%/

Our govenment is like a 20yr old car, great to bragg about how long it's lasted. But ultimately it's time for a re-build, or a new one.;)
