London Cobra Show Drag/Timetrials event

Hey all
I am trying to gauge participation for drag racing/ time trials at the London Cobra Show. I don't know if there will be enough people who want to really see what their Cobras will do in the 1320'. This event would be part of the London Cobra Show. It will be held at National Trails Raceway in Hebron Ohio. The track is located about 30 miles from the LCS hotels. This may also be the location of the autocross event. We are still in the planning stage of this part of the event. There will be some kind of entry fee,(the more cars the less the fee. Your response to this thread will make or break this part of the event. If this does not get the support needed I will organize the autocross at another site yet to be determined. I am trying to get as many things to do with our cars as possible. For those who have never been down the 1/4 mile, I can tell you it is a blast, and you don't need to be Don Garlits to try it. You can run as hard (or not) as you want. The track is a first class NHRA facility that has hosted many NHRA national events. It includes EMS track prep. timing and scoring and full Christmas tree. Please post here or send me a message at cobra@insight.rr.com
Thank You and hope to see you all at the London Cobra Show

Gordon,
Thanks for your efforts in pre-planning. I'm planning on Mid-Ohio and, assuming there is one, as many auto-x runs as I can get. I'd be interested in drags as well.

Before you get too far, if you haven't done so already, check with the track's tech people to see how they feel about our cars. Some have reported issues at NHRA sanctioned tracks with sub 14 second open top cars (basically they'll not let you run 13.99 or quicker without a full cage). I'd hate to see you invest too much time organizing only to find out later that they can't let us run.

Keep us informed and thanks again!
Jeff

Would this replace the runs down Main St, or is this in addition to it? Also do you have a list of other tours and events planned for this weekend yet, Hocking Hills, WPAFB etc. ? Trying to convince the wife into going but need some type of schedule.

GForce 01-29-2009 08:08 PM

Charity rides will continue as always in London on Sat. Friday there are many planned activities Mid-Ohio vintage qualifying, Hocking tours WP Air force Museum, Autocross/Drag racing, shopping, pools. Something for everyone. I have run my Cobra to a not very fast comparatively 12.3 second and the track has never said anything to me. Schedules will be posted at londoncobrashow.com when we have them. True007 tell your wife that it would not be a proper party without her. Thanks for your response.

Will I be able to do both the auto-x and the strip? When and where is the auto-x?

Thanks, Derald.

GForce 02-06-2009 03:27 AM

Derald,
The drags and autox hopefully will be held at National Trails Raceway in Hebron, Ohio. The track is about 30 miles east of the hotels. both events would be held from 8:00am thru 5:00pm EDT on Friday 6/26/2009.

Ok guys
Here is all of the information regarding the drag/autocross event so I am not accused of withholding information. National Trails Raceway has offered to rent the Ohio Cobra Club their facility for $3092.00. This includes: Rent $1500.00, $616.00 for 7 employees,( 1- tower, 1- safety/tech, 1- starter, 1- timeshack, 1- janitor, 1-manager, 1-track prep), Emergency Medical Services, Fire Safety,$576.00, $400.00 cleanup and traction compound. SCCA has offered to set up and run the autocross for another $1000.00. In years past the OCC has paid around $900.00 to rent the parking lot for the autocross event and it has been set up and run by OCC staff and volunteers. We will probably go this route again this year for that part. If we can run the autocross at National Trails in conjunction with the drags we can save some more $$. In the past the $900 was paid from London Cobra Show registrations. no additional fees were charged to run the autox. I can not, nor do I think it would be fair to raise the LCS registration fees, to cover the cost of drag racing. Sooo, in a nutshell, us die hard drag racers need to raise the rest of the bucks for track rental, apox $2192. The question to you is, how much would you pay for the chance to beat me or your buddy at the 1320'. $2090/20 cars = $100 for all day and as many passes as you can make. Less $ if more cars participate. So what do you think? Who is still in at $100.

danc30 02-12-2009 03:28 PM

In for sure at $100. I'd pay double if needed.

GForce 02-16-2009 01:12 PM

Thanks danc30, I wish more felt like we do.

Just throwing this out there, I've rented top notch NHRA tracks before, and they are charging you top dollar for the rental. That being said, limit the number of cars that can run, say 60. Charge 40.00 to run. If you can't fill the spots with Cobras, let the local Mustang club know you have the track rented and spots available. With 60 cars you'll never wait in line, and also after the first hour, the track wil be virtually empty most of the day. Just my 2 cents and the voice of experience.

JWilly 02-16-2009 06:27 PM

I'm still interested.

Scott Shumaker 02-17-2009 04:53 PM

Daphne and I plan on running our cars there.

I'm sorry to announce that the Cobra shootout at National Trails Raceway will not happen as I had planned it. However I talked with the track manager today and he told me that we could run in a special class Friday night (Cobra against Cobra) during their regularly scheduled event of open bracket racing. I think admission to race is between $10.00 and $15.00. If I have any energy left after setting up and running the autocross at (tbd) I will try to lead the Cobras to the track from the hotels and back. Ill keep you all posted on the autocross details.
