That's a great program Brian !
People that aren't highly mechanical, have a way to have a Cobra. :D

Please keep your thread alive here on CC, as we've seen many people post asking questions of who can build a car for them, or at least help. It's a great service you have.

Thanks Brian.

Great program from a great group of guys. Glad that you offer this service. What a neat experience for the owner and his family.

How about some video!

FUNFER2 07-12-2010 11:27 AM

I agree, record & post some video. :D

After you get it all together and fit-up and make sure their are no issues i understand you also crank it before the build is over. Now what happens next? Is it ready to get liscened and drive , except for paint of course? I guess it would be up to the body shop or the owner to take it back apart for painting.

I'm a auto body man, and I believe like most Hot Rod Builders, to assemble it to run, take a short drive around the block to see if there's any engine & drive line issues. It's much,....easier to fix problems without the body on and you don't have to worry about scratching that expensive paint job !

I know it sound like too much work but, you'll be happy at the end, if you disassemble and the paint.

I hear Lonestar is painting cars now too. Will you be painting this one for them?

Looking good!

You have to post a video of the owners face on the first start and first drive.

Paint

We are painting on occasion. We don't advertise that we offer turnkeys which require paint, however a lot of our charity work involves us building and completing such as those raffled off by Bikers Against Drunk Drivers. He has asked us to trailer his Cobra home after the build so we wont be painting his.

I'll definitely be sure to record & get pics of the first crank experience. Usually goes in this order: :LOL::)

Everything else..

It was a good day we will be back in it tomorrow. We didn't get everything on we wanted to but we are still ahead of schedual.

Day 6

Ok, so we're on schedule to be done & driving tomorrow. We were ahead of schedule but we had a couple setbacks. Biggest setback and most irritating so far has been the engine/dust plate. We installed the one that came with the Quick Time bell housing but ended up rubbing against the fly wheel when we turned over the motor today.

We have everything done except the following:
roll bars
seat belts
& seats

We will pull the tranny 1st thing in the morning and replace the engine plate and install the above items and then all that is left will be our pre-drive standard safety check list and wheel alignment. Then the goal we have all been working towards for the last 6 days will be accomplished!

Thanks to all of those following our mission and we promise to bring some positive excitement tomorrow.

The last leg of a race is always the hardest, but we won’t let that stop us from our goals. Tomorrow we drive!

FUNFER2 07-16-2010 07:24 AM

Are you speaking about what I call the "flywheel cover" ?
I have a Quick Time and flywheel cover to install after my new engine's in.

undy 07-16-2010 08:09 AM

... block plate, it sandwiches between the bell housing and the engine block. It protects the back of the block upon a clutch explosion .... or when that over-stroked Genesis lets go...:LOL:

FUNFER2 07-16-2010 08:47 AM

Ah,....no worries. I have the aluminum flywheel and the Force 10.5 dual disc from Ram, so it'll never break. :JEKYLHYDE

I'm gonna over-stroke you,... one of these days ! :p

LSC 07-16-2010 05:48 PM

Day 7

Today we removed the tranny and discovered that the engine plate was not the culprit after all. Turned out the studs in the pressure plate were rubbing against the clutch arm. So needless to say we had to order another McCloud pressure plate. Joe at Standard Transmission has been a God send. He came right over to access the damage and tell us what we did wrong and right away ordered what we needed so that we would have it first thing tomorrow.

Ok, So today we installed the roll bars & a few small nick knacks like the wind wings. All that is left tomorrow aside from the clutch fix is installing a rear view mirror & trunk latch bar.

We should have John driving around lunch considering the pressure plate shows up on schedule.
If it weren’t for challenges, wouldn’t life be boring? :)

7-Day Build- DONE

Sorry for the delayed update. The clutch part arrived Saturday morning and was installed & worked fine. John started his car and everything sounded great then went for a quick test drive before rushing back to the airport. Here are a couple pics.

Aside from the clutch mistake, the build went pretty smoothly.
