Really curious?

How many if at all have built a L.S. Cobra on their own? You know, without daily phone calls into the Factory? Just trying to figure out just how ignorant I am? :(

Ed,

Cannot speak to building a Lone Star Cobra, but from what I have seen of your posts nd reputation I would not consider you ignorant. :)

Wait, aren't you the one still looking for the "ANYKEY" on your computer? :p

DV, let's face it, some people can't change a lightbulb without asking directions. Some of those may have purchased Cobra kits in the past

I know at least three, as I bought their finished cars and then trailered them to my place to tear down and start from scratch %/

DV, it's not you...

Luce 07-27-2015 05:29 AM

LOL!!!

When I built mine, starting 5 years ago, I read the directions and quickly discarded them. In my wasted youth, I had to work on my own cars, but for the 6 yrs prior to the Cobra, I hadn't even so much as lifted the hood, other than the day I bought it just to peep, on my last 5 cars. This is to say, I knew what a muffler bushing and brass file were, and can think, but was far from up to speed on the actual mechanics.

Once I dove in, I went way off the reservation thinking I could build a better mouse trap (and I think I did). I looked at others pictures for things like where to the headers need to go relative to the frame for mounting the engine, but anything else I figured out the hard way, either from doing it twice or sometimes, successfully thinking ahead 6 steps and seeing how it needed to be done.

The key to building a LSC is mustering the confidence that you know as much about it as they do.

Just out of curiosity, what part has you scratching your head? I bet it's a part I cut up and used for something else.

Edit-add-

The only thing I wondered about was where to cut holes in the body. IE the steering column, headers, roll bar and windshield. Then I spent a lot of time looking at as many other cars as possible for pedal location and feel. Since your right foot has to work the brake and gas, and sometimes both at the same time, their relative locations are critical.

HMPH!! And my customer expects his Cobra this decade! (silly man!)

P.S. it's all good **)

I'm in a personal, self induced dilemma. I was spoiled for years actually having manuals to get over the humps. Not that anyone of them wasn't begging for "better", but Damn!

Maybe I can talk BILL, Mr Mustang into a vacation in Pentwater, Mi.??? :)

cgsincc 07-27-2015 08:36 AM

What little that is in the manual is either wrong or an older generation. My favorite is the section on installing windshield wipers.

Step 1 - Assemble wiper assembly
Step 2 - Connect electrical
Step 3 - Test wipers

Not likely :3DSMILE:

Maybe it's time you make a "3 seasons" jump southwards.

Low taxes
Little snow
Plenty of affordable homes with large garage space

Did I mention low taxes.

OK,
This is what set me off to this point, the Spiffy.New.headlights. The "buckets" are quite a few hundreds bigger than the old ones. If you've installed only one pair of head lights in a Cobra you know there is NO extra flange for actually mounting!

Bottom line with LSC and most likely many other kits these headlights (BUCKETS) are to big for the car! Bottom line.......an entire new mold(s) have to be made just to house the new buckets!

Can they be made to fit? Yes, NOT CORRECTLY, BUT they wil fit in the hole with extremely weak mounting points and even at that the flange sticks out over the flat surface almost all the way around.

NOTE: I THINK. ABOUT A DOZEN OF OUR MANUFACTURERS NEED TO GET A HOLD OF KD LIGHTING OF OHIO AND TELL THEM THERE IS A PROBLEM.

Side note for Mr Bill, at my son's wedding just a few years ago in SC. My wife had to.drag me back to Meechigan kicking & screaming all the way!

IT MAY NOT BE TO LATE!?? NC, SC? Who knows??

Building up the headlight bucket area on a Lone Star is equal to having to grind down seams on an FFR roadster body. You have to build up the fiberglass, making the opening smaller, then grinding and cutting out the opening again, a true pain in the behind, but the only way to get the headlight buckets to fit properly.

As for the rest, SC is the way to go, you have my number, feel free to call...

1.5 inches snow last year, shut he whole area down for two straight days (TWO DAYS).......

Bill,
The new HALOGEN buckets are BIGGER than the entire headlight area!
I could do NC......... :)

I misunderstood, can you measure the headlight bucket area, I'll check my notes and see if I have a solution.

Bill S.

PS:
NC=High taxes
SC=Low taxes

Did you get me the measurements yet?

Double Venom 07-29-2015 03:36 AM

LS just sent me a letter admitting it's been a KNOWN PROBLEM with their Bodies, which they now say for "2015" bodies THEY HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM with New BODIES !

Question : How many bodies / years have they shipped mis-shapened bodies?
