info on an odd ball lonestar

I was looking at a cobra on FB and when I messaged the guy he told me he was the second owner of the car, decent looking in the pics but the engine bay looked wide open? when I asked him about it he said the original owner stated it was a lonestar replica on a 68-69 ford mustang chassis? he sent me pics of the underside and it looks like it was in fact a mix of an original chassis with items added to it like a 8.8 rear and more supports under the floor? I told him I never heard of a kit just fitting on a stock chassis and he said the old owner said it was built as a one off, the body was made for it? anyone ever hear about anything like this the stock wb on a 68-69 mustang is 107"!

Did someone cut the front clip at the firewall(suspension) from a Mustang and weld it to a custom frame?

Lone Stars are a little bigger, maybe 96"?

Lonestar never used an OEM chassis. Thy always fabricated their own. The roll bars are also not Lonestar's.

Whatever it is and whoever conceived it, you would be wise to proceed with considerable caution. While it looks like a Cobra on the outside, you will likely find everything on the inside to be just enough different that it will be a massive effort to maintain and/or repair should it require it — and they all do.

The car is likely another example of someone who was unwilling or unable to spend the monies on a mainstream replica. Instead he built a facsimile that looks like a Cobra but the similarity is literally only skin deep. More frustrating (for the next owner), when the car does need attention you will likely find it is far more difficult and potentially expensive to maintain than any replica.

Stay mainstream, you will be happier! This one sounds like a good one to pass on.

Im not looking to buy it,it caught my eye because it was a lonestar and made for bigger guys. yes Im aware that the mustangs were uni-body and looked at pics the guy sent me from under the car, scary looking cobbled welds and frame extensions. it is a lone star body and the roll bars look to be FF and they are somewhat crooked. also when talking to the owner he told me the engine, a 351 Cleveland had 2 damaged rods so it need to be rebuilt. he's asking $45K as is!

$45K? About 1/2 of that (perhaps less) seems more reasonable, given your description.

45K will buy you a pretty nice middle of the road replica with a running engine that does not need two new rods and God knows what else. This is one of those learning experiences and times. The right thing to do is walk / run away as fast as you can.

The not so good thing to do is follow the rabbit down the rabbit hole only to exit into Wonderland. The thing about Wonderland is, nothing is as it should be and someone, I think it was a Queen of something, is always looking for your head (probably also your wallet in this case).
