Chicago loses olympic bid!

CHICAGO LOSES OLYMPIC BID!

http://www.cnn.com/

Eliminated in first round!

dcdoug 10-02-2009 09:48 AM

Where do you see that? The only thing I see on CNN is that the Obama's made their pitch. I don't think the other finalists have even made their pitches yet, although they probably all will today and with the time change maybe its happened. Oh, and I think this is the final round, not the first round.

dcdoug 10-02-2009 09:51 AM

Ah, I just saw it. Wasn't up when I first went to the site and is now.

Drudge, "The EGO HAS LANDED world rejects Obama" What a Fool! Ha Ha Ha...

SP01715 10-02-2009 10:20 AM

Good news for the people of Chicago. Bad news for Obamas cronies that were going to make money from this.

dcdoug 10-02-2009 11:41 AM

I am glad Rio got it. My understanding is there has NEVER been Olympics games held in South America anywhere.

Another $10 million down the crap hole! $5 million borrowed from our GOOD FRIENDS, Communist China!

Heck Dan, that's only about 5 minutes of running the printing press. And don't forget all it cost for his wife and Oprah to take that vacation to lobby the committee. I normally don't listen to anything her or him says, but I had to laugh at her remarks about what a sacrifice she was making for the people by going over there. Just leave my part of the sacrifice out and send me the money they wasted on my behalf.

Ron

Jamo 10-02-2009 12:09 PM

The IOC dared to say no to Oprah? Do they know what they have done?

I hope Rio wins...opening ceremony of thousands of topless fish-string bikini-clad good looking wimmins instead of synchronized moonwalking by fat basturds wearing Bulls jackets.

Rio did win.

Jamo makes a strong case for Rio. :)

There is no way the administration thought they did not have it in the bag. If they thought they could loose this they would have been managing expectations much better and warning us how hard it is to get the Olympics.

They were totally blindsided and this means we are in deep trouble regarding Iran.

We are in deep trouble. Let’s just say, “Period.”

cobra de capell 10-02-2009 12:40 PM

Senator Rowland Burris of Illinois, the Senator who was appointed to fill President Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat, blames George Bush for Chicago not getting the Olympics in 2016. Burris stated in an interview, shortly after the announcement, that the image of the U. S. has been so tarnished in the last 8 years that, even Barack Obama making an unprecedented pitch for the games could not overcome the hatred the world has for us as a result of George Bush.

OK, most of you will flame me for this and I don't necessarily agree with Burris's overall assertion, but I do think that most of the world thinks a lot less of the US because W's idea of world diplomacy wasn't much more than a stick in the eye for other countries. Possible that it influenced the IOC, who knows.

The real bargin is it only cost We the Tax Payers ~$1.2m to send "O" there to be told "No". Pretty cool, kinda wonder if it was worth hearing it in first person or if paying a couple quarters to read it in the newspaper would have been the same to our Dear Leader?!

BeanCounter 10-02-2009 02:52 PM

I might get flamed too but I think it all dates back to Teddy Roosevelt and the terrible war crimes he committed while charging San Juan hill against those poor defenseless Spanish. After all he sent out the Great White Fleet to display American power all over the world. That egotistical drum thumping coupled with the picture of him standing there shaking his fist and decrying "Speak softly and carry a big stick" has set back relations with other countries for nigh onto a 100 years. No wonder they hate us. :JEKYLHYDE

dcdoug makes a valid point. Clearly the reputation of the USA has suffered a setback under the previous administration. While some may not care, it is an issue that cannot be lightly dismissed.

...And the current administration is perceived around the world as weak.

cobra de capell 10-02-2009 03:34 PM

Keep jumping on any point that seems liberal, exc. You are so predictable with your analysis skills no deeper than a bottle cap.

The question is: Why did Obama invest so much personal capital and time for this? Well, he simply can’t help himself. It’s the same force of ego that drives him on to those TV talk shows again and again and that imagines that a grand speech with no content and no appeal outside his base will be a game changer on health-care reform.

This fiasco shows that Obama is a genuine pathological narcissist. No president in his right mind would pursue an objective like this is a way that put a giant "kick me" sign on his back and his wife's back. Indeed, his whole Olympic pursuit was extraordinary from the lack of simple political intelligence, in the sense of the information gathering political operative usually do, which allowed him to believe he could prevail, to the incredible, hubristic stupidity that sent him and Michelle to Copenhagen on an exposed mission that was almost sure to fail. The Obamas' elevators don't go all the way to the top.
