Obama Wins Nobel Prize
|
I think President Obama shows great promise and the global expectations of him are extremely high, but it does seem a bit premature to award him this honour. No offense intended.
Regardless, congratulations to him. Here's hoping he can deliver the goods in the long run. |
The deadline for nominations was Feb. 1, last I checked he hadn’t done much to that point towards world peace. BTW, his fumbling around with Iran is going to get our PP slapped when the Iranians decide to turn Israel into a smoking hole. He has reduced our abilities to check their actions and now they have broadly said they’ll take Israel out if anything is done in the future…it would appear the Iranians don’t fear Obama and probably nominated him for Nobel’s Prize for Least Likely to Strike.

I'm confused !!
I thought you had to actually do something to even be considered for a Nobel peace prize. Sure he has the pieces if he could just get it together, but it looks more like someone going to a car show with all the parts laid out on a flatbed and walking away with Best of Show |
What an embarrassment! Now he wants to include the Taliban in a negotiated peace in Afghanistan. Yeah! That'll work well......

Congratulations to the Pres., I guess he can now show an accomplishment so he can get some votes next time around. The next awards will got Hugo, Fidel and Micheal Moore for their contributions to world domination and peace.
|
There was commentary on the news up here after this was announced. Basically the report said that this was the first ever Nobel Peace Prize given to someone who hoped to achieve peace rather than to someone that had done something to actually achieve peace.
While the jury is still out, let's hope that they do not regret giving BO this prize. Wayne |
A honest man would return or ask to suspend the award until a actual accomplishment has occurred.
Any bets that will happen? |
What the hell has Obama done to even be considered for this award -- it's a disgrace -- but when one reads the list of presidential honorees -- Wilson, Carter and Obama -- it kinda makes sense -- three losers!
The bloom was off the Nobel rose when they gave the thing to Yasser Arafat. WASHINGTON – The awarding of the Nobel Peace Price to President Barack Obama landed with a shock on darkened, still-asleep Washington. He won! For what? For one of America's youngest presidents, in office less than nine months — and only for 12 days before the Nobel nomination deadline last February — it was an enormous honor. The prize seems to be more for Obama's promise than for his performance. Work on the president's ambitious agenda, both at home and abroad, is barely underway, much less finished. He has no standout moment of victory that would seem to warrant a verdict as sweeping as that issued by the Nobel committee. This is my promise: I promise to rid the world of all cancers, pain, suffering, wars........please give me my award now...... |
I hear he's up for an Oscar too.

I believe that only Teddy and Woodrow received the award as a sitting US President. |
Yeah, Obama, a legend in his own mind. I wonder how much Soros paid the committee for this.
|
When they woke him up to tell him he had won The Prize,he said he was humbled.
Wow Two 1st in one day. |
At first, I thought it was from 'The Onion' or Scott Ott. But, alas, it was true.
Sigh, Roscoe |

Don't forget that Al Gore won a Nobel Prize also. That was when I thought a lot of the real honor of winning one left. But three others won in the science category and they deserved it I think.
Ernie, When are you going to get yours at the greatest defender of our president?  Ron :p |
I've got a committee looking into that now Ron, of course I nominated myself. :)
This certainly is a surprise as it concerns Obama. It was a unanimous vote by the way. |
I'll agree with most of the headlines for the day.... "Absurd"

I agree Ron. I don't oppose this administration, but I have to say this award, along with the Al Gore award, makes the Nobel Peace Prize meaningless. Al Gore gets the peace prize for making a movie. A slap in the face to the scientists that have spent their careers on the subject. I can only conclude it is intended as some sort of slap in the face to the previous administration.
It's disappointing that this award isn't used to better advantage. |
