Five Terrible Cruelties of Liberalism
"You will find that I am kind. Unlike the cruel Leonidas, who demanded that you stand...I require only that you kneel." -- King Xerxes, 300
Liberalism is an extraordinarily deceptive, ruinous and cruel ideology. That's because liberalism comes, arms wide open, whispering sweet words of compassion and pity, even as it forcefully slams down a boot upon the neck of people it's "helping." It's bad enough to see people's lives ruined by those who make no pretense about their intentions, but to see human beings destroyed by those who claim to have only their best interests at heart...well, let's just say it's a hell of a thing.

I'm sure you're a great guy. I apologize if you take my comments seriously. I don't take the relentless anti-liberal rants as serious discussion, and had hoped that my remarks would be seen as humorous. If I have offended you or your seven generations of Texas ancestors, please accept my sincere regrets.

Z.,
I have a pretty dry sense of humor and people that don't know me have taken what I've said in ways I never meant.

back to the important stuff, I see you have a 418w. A guy down here has one of those in his Mach I. I met him when he blew my doors off last week. There's only so much a 289 will do, even with an old Paxton strapped on.

God bless Texas. When I was stationed at Hood, the Texans I met were great people. Be proud 392, Texas is a great state (except for the libs I ran into in Austin). If I could accept not having to be near the beach here in San Diego I would be back in Texas.

not to be nit-picking, but Texas does have beaches. If running into liberals in TX bothered you, take a good look around California.

I have been to Texas beaches, no offense but they don't compare. The part of California I live in is not very liberal at all, but they do run the state. That was my point. The state of Texas does not have the problems California does because libs are not running it. I think you missed the point of my post.

oh we have our problems, most of which could be solved, but the Republicans are in charge. The Gov's big idea is to secede.

Well if they manage it I'm moving to Texas. Got plenty of relatives there that left Tennessee with Sam Houston.
But can they give Austin to California? Way too much crazy thinking in that town.

I have told my wife that if Texas were to do this we would have to move.

The Governor twisted the truth somewhat. Popular lore in Texas is that the state retained the right to secede when it joined the union. This is not supported by an examination of the agreement between TX and the Fed. Gov.
it was just some blatant pandering to the far right crowd by the Governor in the opening rounds of his fight with Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchington (sp.?) for the Republican nomination for Governor.
What Texas does have the right do is to divide itself into 4 state (plus one called "Texas"). But all the "new" states would have to stay in the union.
Now that would be interesting to say the least.

I am not sure about this being completely correct and Ernie can correct me, but I believe that Hawaii, even though a state each island has its own basic laws instead of one law governing the whole chain. Would that not be similar to Texas splitting into three or four states, but all are still in the union even though each would have its own rules and so forth ?

I wish we could divide California between north and south. We would still be stuck with L.A., but the liberal north would be gone. Southern California has more in common with Arizona than it does with the northern part of the state.

based on the latest election results, the southern California region is becoming more heavily Democratic Party & fewer Republican.
Don't know about liberal vs. conservative trends.

Obama mania was the main factor of that in the last election. The Obama bumper stickers are disapearing extremely fast around here though. I think you will see a much different trend in 2010.

Kind of like that Ron, but a better analogy would be "counties" within a state. Maui county for instance, still comes under Hawaii State law. The biggest difference with a typical "county" is that the individual islands have more lee way in deciding laws/rules that are specific to their unique needs. There is a LOT of diversity within the individual islands that require that.
