That is some car. And it was kind of stupid for whoever did it to drive it to car meetings and such. I wonder if the owner, wherever he is knew about that part of it. Of course, if they can't find the owner they are now stuck with a rare car which they can neither sell nor use for themselves as it is illegal here.

Well I for one feel much safer knowing that car is not on the highway.

Am I missing something here? I can understand the car not being allowed on US roads, but when did it become illegal to even own the car? And that horse manure about safety is a real joke. Drive around the city I live and see the remnants of cars that are still on the roads. The scrap yards don't even want them because there isn't a speck of metal on them that isn't rusted.

It was imported on a temporary permit a decade ago and never re-exported. It's an illegal import like any other such item, be it ivory or weapons or whatever. I suspect it has to do as much with proper duties etc. being paid (not paid, that is) as anything else.

The guy adds up as an idiot. If he'd wanted to bring the car in permanently as a show piece, he could have done it. Bringing in a noncompliant vehicle on false terms, and then being stupid enough to show it off everywhere... he got what was coming to him.

(This has nothing to do with agreeing with the laws, BTW. But this chump knew he was on thin ice... so he starts tap-dancing on a land mine. So sorry, Chollie.)

Unfortunately, the car is likely to end up in the chomper.
