I am with you Roscoe. High proof whisky is bad news. You never see it coming. You just wake up the next morning with no clothes and a lamp shade on your head.

The highest bourbon I can take is 107. Last year I had a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 15 year. 107 proof but with a nice smooth maple finish. Did not get any 15 yr during the fall release. Only 10, 12, 20 and 23 yr. Goes out as fast as it comes in. Waiting now for the spring release in April.

If you have ever had Basil Hayden it is one of the smoothest bourbons I've ever tasted. Smooth as silk and 80 proof.

I try the others as I have the opportunity (or feel like experimenting with a whole bottle), but I always return to JD Single Barrel.

Erm. I dunno. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to booze - my basic rule is "If you can't drink it straight, don't drink it." The multiplication of flavored liquors is a sign of end times, I think... especially when they've started on whiskey.

I live fairly close to where they make it. Can you believe the town is DRY?!?!?!

It is.

Wow, that is surprising. I don't drink, well rarely anyway, maybe a sip on New Years eve or a splash of Rum with some egg nog come Christmas.

So recently, while at the market I wanted to pick up some Rum for some eggnog. Couldn't find any! I asked the clerk, he say's, "You can't buy liguor here, where are YOU from?" Hawaii,,, as a matter of fact, left him with a blank look on his face...

Turns out they only sell it at liquor stores here! I had a heckuva of a time finding one, they are few and far between.

We finally have Stranahans in St. Louis. Haven't tried it yet, but I loved the interview with the owners (father and son). The father commented whiskey should be made out west because "John Wayne never walked into a saloon and ordered wine".

Ah, yes, the Jawn Wayun version of history.

The wild, wild west was between South Dakota and Oklahoma.

Whiskey is made between the British Isles and KenTennessee.

And John Wayne was a draft dodger.

Yeah, it's pretty famous that JD is made in a dry county.

Jimmy Bedford was one of my heroes, even if he did turn out to have, er, hands of clay. I enjoy every bottle of SB knowing it was distilled under his supervision... for another few years, at least.

Also very good. I was shocked actually. Jack is good, but the single barrel is great.
