They also added a $20 "late fee" if you buy your plates 7 days after they expire. You used to be allowed to buy them within the month of your birthday, but not anymore.
This includes motorcycles and boats. So if you decide to park your motorcycle in the Winter, which most people do, you are stuck buying plates for the whole year or pay the late fee, which is about 36 cents less than buying the plates.
