Yea me too. I heard we have a possibility for snow over the next couple days again. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

Joe,
I hope that you don't get hit by any of this type weather. I think if I was Tru I would be looking at going to the Arctic where it is warm.

If throwing another log on the fire would warm things up here i would throw on ten logs..
to say its cold here is an understatement........
0 degrees with a 35mph wind........bbbbuuuurrrrr
and to be honest, its not the 0 degrees that gets you
its the 35mph wind that cuts to the bone........

Bob,
The wind is what makes it so bad. I saw one place that the winds chill was 52 below zero. That is really cold. Also looks as if the snow is going to continue for another day or so.

...
Ron,
The weather isn't been too good here either. But at least I haven't run any electronic keys through the snowblower this year.
The trip here to Montana was really cold last night. We started at 0415 yesterday morning. One detector was 24 below. I set my brakes right out of Mandan, ND and they didn't want to pump back up my train. Finally they built up enough air to release so we could make some speed without dragging them. The Road Master (maintainance boss) lowered top speed to 40 mph, instead of 60, maybe to resist braking the rail or make a derailment less severe. The ribbon rail (continuous rail) breaks from shrinkage in cold weather. But it was so windy we couldn't even manage 40 most of the time.
Once I had air, I purposely never used the train brakes again all the way into Montana. Then another train noticed a car 106 deep in our train with smoking stuck brakes, so we stopped and the other conductor kindly helped us out. But then his engineer, impatient to go, pressed him to cut the brakes out, which he did instead of waiting for me to give them a hard set and release which might have fixed the problem since it was only 13 below by then. The train can't leave the next terminal with this type brake defect.
We thought we'd fix this when we got to town about 1430 hrs, but even after we did the time consuming full set/release and it worked, the company decided it had to be checked by a professional carman. And not in the train. It had to be taken out and pumped up by a truck to be checked. I bet it was still here several hours after we were in the hotel. I hope Warren Buffett doesn't find out how we are wasting his money.

Wes,
That is just to cold for me. I don't know a lot about air brakes, just remember them freezing on some of the equipment in Korea. That is interesting about the rail. Does it expand any in the Summer heat?

Yeah. The rails get sun kinks.
And, of course, we have to slow down again. Murphys' Law.
Just can't make any money out here. We get paid by the mile, dadburn it.

That looks like anything but a railway to me. I am used to seeing the old type with the cross ties and heavy rail sections. Does that type stand up for a long time or do they have to work on it a lot? Good picture by the way.

Not possible. If he did they would be having nice warm weather with all of the hot air he creates. Actually in his case and the same with a lot of the politicians I can't completely dismiss the human factor in Global Warming. Now based on that statement I should be considered for some kind of Nobel Prize.

Bob,
Have fun. It is foggy and cool here this morning but would be downright hot by your temperatures. I need a fog blower.

And that is why I left Nebraska when I turned 18. I try to keep to the summer months to visit family. Not too bad down here Ron. Cold and windy but no snow or sleet. Still a small problem with people running their sprinklers trying to keep the grass green and watering the street instead.

Joe,
With all of the rain you have had do they really need to run the sprinklers? I had to go to COSTCO and pick up my medicine and it was foggy as all get out. Now that I am finally back home the fog is lifting but it is pretty overcast. Ernie type weather.

I will have two tractors running this afternoon.
I think we only got 6 inches, but it was still snowing.
Remember, "watch out where those Huskeys go, don't you eat that yellow snow."

Tru,
That warning had to be for Joe and Steve. We don't have any snow here. Just fog and drizzle. Which I much prefer to 4" of snow and below zero temperatures.

No snow here either, but I do have a Siberian Husky/Alaskan Malamute mix.
Ron,
The bermuda grass we have down here turns brown when it gets cold unless you keep it drowned in water. Then you will have patchy green. Huge waste of water really. It is winter, all the grass is brown get over it.
