Ron

So what you are saying is that starting this week, it will be all NASCAR all the time on Speed. I hear that Speed will have even more NASCAR coverage than last year. I don't know how much more those talking heads can say. Of course each week they will want to analyze every aspect of Danica's performance for hours on end.:p

Wayne,

Every year for some time now it has been all NASCAR on Speed after the Rolex 24 is over. I don't watch any of their many shows as they just hash the same stuff over and over again. There is only so much you can discuss about a race or car and then it get boring.

rustyBob 02-03-2010 09:58 AM

I will watch a few races this year but i'm not going out of my way to do it........
Daytona for sure and California and might try to attend the race in Kansas but i would have to get a deal on tickets before i consider it......

Ron61 02-03-2010 10:16 AM

Bob,

I will watch more of them this year IF the racing is any better than it has been the past two years. Last year I didn't watch many at all as I hunted for road races to watch.

Last year I recorded and watched highlights. If there was something talked about I would fast forward to that part and watch it. Otherwise I would just delete it. I only watched a couple of races.

Ron61 02-03-2010 10:48 AM

I am hoping that some of the rule changes will make for better racing. If not, then I won't be watching much of it this year either.

Ron

Wayne Maybury 02-03-2010 11:25 AM

I don't mind watching the actual racing, even some of the pit stop action is fun but the darn talking heads that go on and on and on about nothing for hours and hours is just too much. Even the most avid NASCAR fans cannot possibly watch all of that meaningless bal, bla, bla before and after each race. Can you imagine how many hours they are going to use up talking about the wing versus the spoiler?:eek:

Wayne

Ron61 02-03-2010 11:31 AM

Wayne,

They did a complete 30 minute show last year talking about the tires. It took them 15 minutes to explain how something puncturing the tire lets the air out and that is what makes the tire go flat, thus tearing everything up at high speed. But they do screw up too. Like the time McRenolds was telling everyone how the rocker arm hits the piston when a valve spring breaks. He was talking so fast none of the others could correct him.

ARCA race, 80 laps @ 200 miles, will be at 4:30 after Cup qualifying. Schedule indicated 32 positions ( or is it 43 ? ), but there are 53 entered. Yes, Danica will have a novice yellow stripe on the rear bumper.

Believe it is Showtime that will also have a NASCAR program.

Ron61 02-04-2010 04:11 AM

Well this afternoon is the first of the televised Daytona practices and I think I may watch at least pert of it to see if there is any difference in they way the cars seem to handle.

136 hours of NASCAR coverage on Speed channel for the next week.....WOW

Ron61 02-04-2010 03:33 PM

Bob,

I have watched about 2 hours of it off and on. Best part was the showing of the first races in 1959 through 1962. Now I know how the two qualifying races came into being. In 1959 they ran two classes of cars and Richard Petty was 21 years old for the 1st race on the new track. They started 59 cars and they had to have two qualifying events as the two classes of cars were hard tops and convertibles. And that is how the two qualifying races came into being.

ARCA race on Saturday on Speed @ 4:30, some have estimated the race will have the highest number of TV viewers ever for an ARCA race....., i.e. the Marketing objective.

Ron61 02-05-2010 05:05 AM

Don,

I plan to watch the race today and for the same reasons that 90% of the other people will. I hope that she does well.

Ron :)

Danica mentioned in another interview the decision has not been made whether she will enter the Nationwide race. She stated the decision would not depend solely upon the finishing position in the ARCA race, but how well she adapts and the quality of her driving.

From MotorSport.com:

" Danica Patrick has been making headlines for weeks regarding her debut at the Daytona International Speedway. During media day at the Daytona International Speedway on Thursday, her session attracted more participants than many of the others combined. "

" Since the media wasn't sure how Patrick would respond to the army of reporters that cover the Daytona 500 and other major races, they were eager to see how she would conduct herself. If first impressions count, Patrick came across as very congenial, articulate and humble, and handled the endless number of interviews and photo sessions with ease. "

" Patrick admitted she faces a steep learning curve, but is ready for the challenge. "I just have to learn, and if I am part of an accident, I will learn from it," she stated. Regarding her goal for the upcoming race, she wants to do more just finish it. "A lot of these guys have done it for a long time; I can't put a number on my goal, as I never do," she said. "The idea is for me to improve my position and make as few mistakes as possible." "

I watched the Arca race from the first caution on and I have to say that I thought she did well. The shootout was good. They were actually racing each other. That is what I hope to see on Thursday and on Sunday next week.

Ron61 02-07-2010 07:46 AM

I agree that she did well. And I liked the actual racing even though they did cause some wrecks. Nothing new abut that except it came while actually racing rather than while just running around in a circle and no one doing anything. I hope this will carry over into the Daytona 500 and for the rest of the season. Also it will be interesting when Danica gets to a track where they have to set the car up and keep up with track changes. I thought that she drove a smart race and I wasn't watching for her to finish high in the order. I was watching more to see how she handled herself in the mist of a bunch of other cars trying to shove each other out of the way. But 6th place was great.

Joe Wicked 02-07-2010 08:34 PM

She did good saving the car as it spun through the infield.

As far as the wrecks caused, that is racing. It will happen if you actually race. We have spent 2 seasons not actually pushing the envelope so these guys are not as acurate as they once were. They are rusty. The skill set is more junior now also, so the knowledge is only in the hands of a few. But sometimes the wrecks will happen anyway as that is racing.

Ron61 02-08-2010 05:46 AM

And to be truthful, that is what the fans come to the track to see along with good racing. Boy did that one woman tear her car up when it flipped and hot the fence with the top. I was watching and some of the pulleys on the engine were still spinning a sit slid to a stop. But that will be one engine that will be easy to get to to remove. And she hit right at the end of the safer barrier and damaged the wall and catch fence.

Ron :)
