The ARCA race was a good race......that woman that hit the wall was lucky for sure...
and the one woman in the 15 car ran a good race till she got shuffled to the rear of the pack then spun when there was another wreck.........all in all a good race..... as for the Bud Shootout........too bad Harvick won that now he will think he's Earnhardt Sr. again and start driveing like an azz again......... |
Yea her car was toast. I too noticed the pulleys still spinning. It has been quite a while since I saw a car that tore up.
|
That was a hard hit and she was a little dazed when they took her to the infield care center. If you noticed they never attempted to interview her or even talk much about her after the wreck. She is going to be one sore person today. But it does show how well the cars are built.

I see that NASCAR is considering another rule change involving the G-W-C finish. I really wouldn't mind if they did change it as that would sure mess up some of the gas strategy.

I could see them giving another shot if say a crash happened before the white flag came out. If the White is already flying, then I would say that is it, it is over. I would rather see a change that the last X laps (I like 30-50) are green laps only. Any yellow lap does not count.
|
Yellow flag laps should not count as race laps because they arent raceing they are just following the pace car.........
|
I agree with both of you on not counting the yellow flag laps as it seems at least 1/4th of every race is ran behind the pace car. But then NASCAR couldn't stall around for 10 laps to pick up a piece of paper or something. As for the extending the G-W-C at the end of the race, I would like to see them do it because that would take a lot of the gambling on gas out of the equation.
Ron |
Yes it would because you would not know how many times they are going to go for it. There should be a reasonable limit though. Spending an hour trying to get the last 2 laps is ridiculous. I would say let the control tower make the final call on how many but set a hard limit. I think if you give 5 attempts, and a caution comes out, just end it already. All we are doing is tearing up race cars. Just end it. I think 3 is enough actually, and I am sure that there will not be many that go beyond that, but set a hard limit, just because you don't want to implement it and then go back and change it for something like this.

Joe,
They announced yesterday that due to fan dissatisfaction with the one G-W-C finish they are going to extend it to 3 tries. I liked the way they read it as they said due to dropping attendance and ratings, they felt they had to listen to what the fans want now. If only they would stop counting those yellow laps now that would make for some real hair pulling as all the gas strategy would go out the window. Edit: Here is the article from the NASCAR site. http://www.nascar.com/2010/news/head...red/index.html Ron :) |
I watched the Duel races last night and I saw that they did. When I posted that above, I did not know that they had decided on 3 attempts to allow the leader to take the white under green. I guess I was thinking right in line with Nascar. I hope that doesn't mean I am now a lost cause. :D :JEKYLHYDE

Careful Joe or your ratings may go down also. I do wish they would do something about all of the yellow flag laps now. Either don't count them, or red flag the cars while they spend 20 minutes doing 10 minutes worth of clean up. I would prefer that they just didn't count them. That would really mess up their fuel mileage games. Ron :D |
I am afraid my ratings can't get any worse. My last TV show "Fat man on a bicycle" flopped badly and I can't figure out why.
I agree, don't count the caution. |
Well the truck race was rained out last night and they showed a replay of last years race. Never watched any of it as I am sure the same person won again.

The Longest Race: Well of all the races during Daytona Speed Week, the 500 was the most boring to me. I enjoyed the rest but barley made myself watch it as they sit for a couple of hours repairing the track. The finish was good and I was really hoping that Biffle would win, but when Harvick slammed down on him I thought he was going to wreck. I am happy that Harvick didn't win. Boy did Jr. ever come to life that last lap. Another lap and it would have really been interesting. Stewart just couldn't seem to get his car to work all day. Ron :) |
As usual, the 500 was another "Yawner", except for the last few laps. Maybe if they repaved the track, added a lane and got rid of all the grass so there is a good skid pad things might be more interesting.
It was nice to see Jamie win but too bad Jr. didn't have a few more laps to make it. Bill |
It was more boring than the rest, but I think a big improvement over the last couple of years. There was actually some rubbing and some real racing throughout the race. Yellow flag laps were kept to 4 laps, I would like to see that dropped to 3, but better than the 6-8 lap yellow flag laps from last year. I was out with the wife most of the day yesterday so I recorded it. I did not get to see the last 39 laps as it stopped recording right as they lifted the 2nd red flag. I did see the Newman wreck online though and saw that Jamie won.
As far as the track, this is the 3rd time in recent memory that this has happened at a track, and every time, they say "This track is scheduled to be repaved next year". Sounds like they are waiting too long to do repairs/resurfacing to me. I think Nascar should impose a penalty/reward system for tracks. Make tracks want to be the best bar none. The thing that got under my skin the most was the announcers saying, "Do you think they should tell the drivers you can drive over this patch and we can race for a while, or you can avoid it and we can finish the race." Telling them that would be the same as saying, "Stay in line through 1 and 2. If you cannot finish a pass, before you get to turn 1 don't attempt it." |
Joe,
I agree the tracks should be maintained better than some of them are. It has been a long time since Daytona has been paved. Did you see all of the cracks as they panned around the track, and in a couple of places it looked as if the cracks had separated but that could have been the camera angle. By the way, wasn't it Texas Motor Speedway a few years ago that had water coming up through the track like a small spring? I know whichever one it was, right after the last race they tore it all up and installed drainage pipes and then repaved it and it was great. Ron ;) |
Once again the only lap to watch was the last lap..........
excpt for a few wrecks the race was boreing....... the track turned out to more of a story than the race....... and i guess old racecar drivers dont retire they become announcers for Fox network........ was glad to see Digger was off most of the day to........ |
Anyone else recognize that NASCAR did not have another yellow at the end of the race while the accidents were occurring in the back, which would have given Earnhardt a side by side start with Jamie and an opportunity for a win ?
In the past, criticism that the yellows were shown to assist/influence the race results. Not my original thought but mentioned by Dave Despain on the Speed program Wind Tunnel. At 2.5 miles with 31 degree banking, wonder what the bill will be for base repair and repaving ? The history of Daytona shows an arrangement where the paving machine is secured at the top with a cable/track, otherwise would slip down. An improvement would be to remove all the oil etc from the pits deposited by the multiple earlier races prior to the 500, instead of sliding when entering the pits. I believe any race with 500 miles will have periods of no action, same as at Indy. Overall, the races are too long, drivers hesitant not wanting to get aggressive until the final laps. Some races such as Daytona and Indy would not have the same appeal if called the 400 or 300. Nice to see a different mix in the top 10, credit to Dale Jr going from 10th to 2nd in the last lap (s) , drove like Dale Sr. Harrahs: Top 10 Odds to win, in finish order: 1. McMurray 35/1 2. Earnhardt 8/1 3. Biffle 25/1 4. Bowyer 18/1 5 Reutimann 35/1 6 Truex 35/1 7 Harvick 20/1 8 Kennseth 18/1 9 Edwards 15/1 10 Montoya 16/1 |
Don....with the new G-W-C rule if the leader takes the white flag then no matter what happens the next flag will be the checkered flag and the race is over......if Earhhardt had passed Jamie then i think he would have been the winner for sure and by not displaying the yellow it dosent freeze the field.......first to the stripe ....WINS.
i like this new rules change as it gives the people not in the wreck a chance to advance if they can.and when the chackered flag flies the race is over anyway. I think this season might be a little more exciting with this rule change. and yes they could shorten some of the races but Daytona is the first race of the season and is the one that should be left alone. |
